Chicago Summer Jam: Saturday Standouts
Romeoville, Il — Prep Hoops was back in the gym Saturday for another day of the Baylor Youth Chicago Summer Jam. It was an action packed day and we look at some of the days top performers here.
Saturday Standouts
CG – 2019 6’3’’ Tyler Cochran – Hoopers Basketball Club (Bolingbrook HS)
Tyler Cochran out of Bolingbrook HS was excellent in a comeback victory over Beyond Ball. The combo guard has good size at 6’3’’ with a good frame he uses his body well and has good control going to the rim. Is one of more efficient scorers in the state. Cochran scored from all three levels in the win. Showed a quick release from deep and also did a good job at getting to the free throw line. Cochran brings a lot of intangibles to the table. He has good court vision and has sneaky quick hands on defense where he is able to get out in the passing lanes and get steals. Cochran finished with a game high 23 points as his team turned a 7 point deficit at the half to a ten point win. Cochran holds several Division 1 offers.
PG – 2019 6’0’’ Trey Boston – Y & R Parham (Downers Grove North)
Downers Grove PG Trey Boston has been one of the better shot makers all weekend at Summer Jam. Boston is a sharpshooting PG with good handles and is very shifty. Boston started out hot in a win over the KC Spurs and didn’t slow down finishing with a game high 25 points. Boston can score so many different ways and that is what makes him a tough matchup. He can knock shots down from deep but also is good at getting to the paint and finishing or creating from his teammates. Boston recently picked up a Lewis University offer, and look for him to add to that after a good weekend at the Chicago Summer Jam
SF – 2019 6’5’’ Isaac Stanback – Y & R Parham (Homewood Flossmoor HS)
Stanback was probably one of the better defenders I saw Saturday at 6’5’’ he can guard multiple positions out on the wing and even spent time defending the post and did a solid job. Stanback was a rim protector in the win over KC Spurs were he had 5 blocked shots and did a solid job cleaning up the glass against a Spurs team that had a size advantage. Stanback has the potential to be a solid 3 and D player at the next level. Showed good form on his shot and can create space to either get to the rim or pull up. Will be a player to track his senior year at Homewood.
F – 2019 6’6’’ Dalen Ridgnal – KC Spurs (Rockhurst HS)
Ridgnal out of the Kansas City area Rockhurst HS was a force in the paint for the KC Spurs the 6’6’’ Forward was active on the boards on both ends and had several offensive rebounds where he came out of nowhere to grab the rebound and finish at the basket. Ridgnal had a soft touch and really impressed with his energy and high motor he played with all game. He was good in pick n’ roll situations where he scored both on the pick and pop and also rolling to the basket. A junk yard dog type of player who did a lot of the little things such as blocking shots, getting steals and keeping plays alive. Ridgnal won a lot of the 50/50 balls and was a major reason KC Spurs kept it close against Y & R.
G – 2019 6’5’’ Rj McGee – Thunder Elite
The former Kenwood Academy player RJ McGee will do a post grad year in Florida. He had another solid day at Summer Jam where once again he was Mr. Clutch down the stretch. McGee in a combo guard with good size and quickness. He can get down hill in a hurry and has good body control finishing at the rim and drawing fouls to get to the line. He hit a game winning three against Howard Pulley Friday night and Saturday night he was back with the late game heroics scoring 8 points in the final minute to mount a comeback victory over Red Rush out of Canada. McGee already has a college build at 6’5’’ and a good frame. He is a athletic guard who can play above the rim and has the potential to be a good defender as well. Can score from all three levels but is best out on the break and getting to the basket.
