2019 Rankings Updates: 757 Bigs
We’re heading into the senior season of the 2019 class, one that we at Prep Hoops VA have had the pleasure of watching grow from when they were just freshmen. This class has seen new players come in, some players leave for programs outside of the state, and have seen some massive changes over the years. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone in July and August, and come time for the new season to start we’re sure there will be even more changes coming.
Over the next few weeks we will be breaking down the rankings by positions and locations. With that being said, here’s a look at the bigs in 757 areas that we ranked in the 2019 rankings.
*Editors Note: These breakdowns are based on where the players play high school basketball at.
Dajour Rucker | 6’6” PF | Cape Henry/Team Loaded 757 (#12 Overall)
Rucker is a big body four man who can stretch the floor and bangs on the offensive glass really hard. He has the body to clear out space and scores with both hands around the basket, and he can score the basketball from all three levels. He has a very high motor on the offensive end, and if he can match that motor defensive and continue to improve his body and conditioning for the next level he’ll be very good as a hybrid forward. He’s committed to Marshall University in the MAC after his senior season.
Kenan Sarvan | 6’9” PF | Bishop Sullivan/Team Loaded 757 (#20 Overall)
Sarvan shot up the rankings, going from the mid 40s when we first watched him to sitting firmly at 20 now. He is very impressive as a guy who can play inside-out, as he has a mix of euro-style skillset and a little toughness to him in the post. He can shoot the three on the pick-and-pop and the trail, and he can run the floor and finish and is a good passer as well. He’s still adjusting to the style of play over here in the states, but his skill set now with his size makes him an immediate mismatch problem at the next level. He’s only going to continue to get better moving forward as well.
Caleb Butts | 6’6” PF | Deep Creek/BWSL Russell (#55 Overall)
Butts is that guy who may be a little undersized in the post, but he’s going to outwork everyone who’s bigger than him and make an impact on both ends. He uses his wide frame to carve out space, is relentless when attacking the glass on both ends and he can step out and knock down the jumper or take slower bigs off the bounce. He can handle in transition and start the break after the rebound, he has a terrific midrange game off the face up and he’s a good passer out of the post. The rankings aside, his production and high motor are things that everyone loves about this kid.
Detionne Leach | 6’5” PF | Phoebus/Team Loaded 757 (#60 Overall)
A high motor four man that can run the floor and finish above the rim, Leach brings a lot of energy to his team and is an impact guy on both ends of the floor. He can face up and take his man off the bounce, he’s a good rebounder on both ends and he can switch out and defend guards or he can protect the paint. He runs the floor like a gazelle, as he’s a guy who will rebound and outlet, then beat everyone on a rim run to the other end. He has a decent skill set both inside and out, and he’s still somewhat of a raw product that’s going to get better with time.
DeLonta Cooper | 6’5” PF | Kecoughtan (#103 Overall)
Cooper’s ability to run the floor and play both forward positions makes him very versatile. He can score in transition and around the basket, he can guard in the post and on the perimeter and he’s a good rebounder on both ends of the floor. He’s undersized at his position but he has a high motor and great length and will make a positive impact when he’s on the floor in one way or another.
Tyson Brown | 6’6” PF | Kempsville (#106 Overall)
Brown is still somewhat of a project, but he’s sprouted to 6’6″ and is a big time impact guy on the defensive end. He protects the rim really well both in help side and straight up, and he’s nimble and athletic enough to get out in transition and run. Offensively he’s coming along, as he can score inside and out to about 15 feet. He continues to fill out and show more toughness and assertiveness in his game, which is going to really take him over the top as a senior moving forward.
