Season Preview: 2029 Point Guards to Watch

Georgia's sophomore class features a talented group of young point guard prospects who are already making a name for themselves. As the high school season approaches, we take a look at a handful of the 2029 point guards across the state worth keeping an eye on this fall. Alusma is a strong scoring guard with better than average quickness and the ability to create offense in a variety of ways. He has good command of the basketball, changes speeds effectively and is a creative finisher who can score around the rim in traffic. Alusma is a capable open shot maker, plays with a high motor and brings value at the defensive end with his strength, quickness and effort level. Scott is an athletic sophomore lead guard who consistently puts pressure on opposing defenses with his ability to get downhill off the dribble. He has the quickness to turn the corner and is a creative finisher who can convert with either hand around the rim. His ability to stop and make shots from the midrange gives defenders another element to account for and makes him difficult to contain off the bounce. Scott also has considerable defensive upside, possessing the athleticism, quickness and physical tools to develop into a high level defender. An All-Region selection last season, Footman is a strong, tough lead guard with a scorer's mentality and a good feel for the game. He consistently gets downhill off the bounce, uses his strength well around the basket and is an effective finisher through contact. Footman already has an impressive combination of physical tools and offensive ability, and he should be poised for a big sophomore season. The Region Freshman of the Year last season, Gaither is a dynamic point guard with the ability to impact the game as both a scorer and facilitator. He has excellent command of the basketball, uses his above average quickness to consistently get into the paint and can score at all three levels. Gaither is also a good passer who sees the floor well and makes sound decisions with the basketball. His combination of quickness, skill, scoring ability and playmaking makes him one of the state's top young point guards. Lee is a rangy sophomore guard with good positional length, quickness and considerable upside. He excels at attacking off the dribble, changes speeds well and consistently puts pressure on the defense with his ability to get into the paint. Lee has a good feel for the game and shows promise as a playmaker, creating opportunities for himself while also finding teammates when the defense collapses.
