Pangos Frosh/Soph: Top 30 Wing Standouts

LONG BEACH — We were at McBride high school Saturday and Sunday for another installment of Dinos Trigonis' Pangos All-West Frosh/Soph camp which featured many of the best first and second-year prospects in the Western U.S. The event featured 120-plus campers with Top 60 and Top 30 games on Sunday. Below we take a closer look at the wings who stood out during the two-day event and earned an invite to the Top 30 Cream of the Crop game.    Sarkesian's combination of versatility, skill and feel for the game were the key takeaways of his performance on the weekend. The 6-foot-6 sophomore is a high IQ dribble, pass, shoot and score off the bounce threat with his ability to attack on straight-line drives and knock down spot-up threes. Sarkesian made the right play and pass consistently, rebounded on both ends of the floor and flashed his polished all-around game throughout the event. Sarkesian led Armenia to the Eurobasket U16 Division C championship over the summer and and earned MVP honors after averaging 21 points and 14.8 rebounds per game.     McCoy's playing style translated perfectly to this event with his blend of physicality, aggressive transition attacking mentality and ability to keep the defense honest with off-catch threes. The 6-foot-3 sophomore thrived in open court situations where he used a quick crossover and burst of speed to get into the lane where he finished through or above contact. The Valencia high school product scored 12 points in the Top 30 game.     Wafer is an intriguing long-term prospect because of his physical and athletic makeup which is highlighted by his high motor and ability to defend multiple positions. The wiry and bouncy 6-foot-6 wing wasn't a statistical monster throughout the camp games but he kept showing flashes of potential as an athletic slashing and finishing wing who, with continued work on ball skills and shooting, can be an inside-out scoring threat.     We have Micelli pretty high in our SoCal class of 2029 rankings but he has a chance to make a name for himself on the regional level with an expanded role at Notre Dame this season. The 6-foot-6 wing is as pure of a set shooter as you'll find in the state and connects on threes from multiple spots and deep range with fundamental shooting mechanics and a strong base with good balance. In the two camp games we watched Micelli in he scored 31 and 28 points, respectively, with a variety of threes, mid-range pull-ups and strong downhill drives.     Graham could be up next in the long lineage of talented Long Beach Poly wings to advance to the next level. The sophomore sprouted up a couple inches since the end of the season and now looks a legit 6-feet-6 with an impactful wingspan and fluid athleticism, a blend of physical and athletic tools that make him one to track closely over the next three years. Graham's perimeter skill, combined with his effort and energy, led to him being a double-double threat.     Cuyler showed that he has a little bit of everything in his offensive arsenal and the next-level size, athleticism and feel to play either on or off the ball. The 6-foot-4 wing was best when slashing and finishing around the rim in transition and half-court offense as his crafty ball handling, shiftiness of his movements and quick vertical athleticism allowed him to get to the rim and finish with ease. The East Coast-native, now in Arizona at Bella Vista Prep, averaged 23.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per game during the camp games and added 18 points, five steals and four assists in the Top 30 game.
