Rice Team Camp: Key Guards That Impacted Winning

The 2026 Rice Team Camp provided a glimpse into the upcoming high school basketball season. Teams have made significant roster changes, either adding or subtracting key players from last year to this year. The camp set the stage for an intriguing season ahead. In this article, I'll highlight five standout players who impressed me during my time at the weekend event.    [player_tooltip player_id='3665754' first='BJ' last='Lafell'] was one of the top players I watched from Shadow Creek High School that played a pivotal role in the Rice Team Camp evaluation. His offensive skillset was evident throughout the games I evaluated. Lafell consistently generates points by swiftly driving to the rim in transition and half-court situations. His athleticism shines through as he bursts with speed towards the basket, showcasing his finishing ability during transition plays. Defensively, Lafell is a relentless pressure player, often forcing opposing guards to pick up their dribble in the half-court, disrupting the offensive flow. He ranks #9 on our Prep Hoops list for the 2029 class.     Pierce Green, one of the most active players I evaluated at the Rice Team Camp that showcased his skills in both offense and defense. His high level of activity stemmed from his ability to play effectively in the passing lanes and provide solid perimeter defense. Offensively, Pierce thrives in transition, driving downhill to score and generating a significant number of points. Occasionally, I witnessed his impressive shooting ability, both off the dribble and off the catch as he took smart open shots within his range. Pierce's versatility and potential make him a valuable asset to College Park High School, capable of making a significant impact on the game in both ends of the floor.     [player_tooltip player_id='2138028' first='Tyson' last='Forrest'] is the lead guard from College Park High School that made a significant impact at the Rice Team Camp. In the pick-and-roll, he demonstrated finding his spots on the floor and capitalizing on opportunities to shoot. Additionally, he effectively identifies open teammates within the offensive flow. As a lead ball handler, he effortlessly executes simple plays as he has earned the trust of making decisions on that end of the floor. Watching him play, you can see the fluidity of his offensive movements. Defensively, he showcased his ability to close gaps in rotations and frequently initiate fast break opportunities through steals. Furthermore, he contributes defensively by rebounding in the paint.     [player_tooltip player_id='2556331' first='Jamil' last='Adelagun'] is a guard from Paetow High School that demonstrated his shot making at the Rice Team Camp. His ball-handling abilities allowed him to capitalize on shots from various spots on the court, showcasing his versatility. Defensively, Jamil's length and agility made him a presence as a one-on-one defender. His active play often resulted in steals, giving his team an advantage. Additionally, his athleticism enabled him to finish plays above the rim, particularly on fast breaks. He effectively rebounded the ball, creating pressure in transition opportunities against opposing teams as he goes downhill off them.     [player_tooltip player_id='3218575' first='Marley' last='Maxwell'] out of St. Francis Episcopal High School is a guard that impressed me in his game against Paetow High School at the Rice Team Camp. His scoring consistency was evident in this game, making shots confidently, especially from the three-point line. From the perimeter, he shoots with a quick trigger that is hard for defenders to react to if he is left open. He was able to make the defense pay for leaving him open, converting on many of his attempts from the perimeter. With the ball in his hands, he threw out some impressive passes to his teammates that resulted in generating good looks for his teammates to score. At his 6'4 height, he is able to read defenses well within the offensive flow. Defensively, he competed at a high level, being involved often in rotations.
