As we stand less than 24 hours away from the beginning of the scholastic live period, we will break down a few candidates that should impress college coaches enough to receive their first scholarship offer or raise the level of their recruitment with a few standout performances. The DMV is never short of point guards that take advantage of the big stage to get their name out at a national level. Let's dive into a few names that I think are due for a big weekend as high level scorers that get the job done!

-Through the first three sessions, Fox has shown flashes of his scoring ability but also currently leads 3SSB in steals through 3 sessions. The lightning quick PG will be playing with a PGCA team that has added a ton of new names into the mix and Fox should serve as the effective head of the snake as a skilled scoring guard that has the craft to get to his spots without a ball screen. Fox can hit tough shots from all three levels, regularly earns trips to the FT line, and has both a quick first step and a nice change of direction that make him difficult to stay in front of without fouling. If he can put up his usual 20+ point stat lines to go with efficient shooting numbers rounded out by a healthy assist to TO ratio: he should see his recruitment boom these two sessions.

-Nelson transferred into Bullis and reclassified to 2028 a few weeks ago in a splash move for a Bullis team that was in need of his scoring and play-making. Nelson is still relatively young for grade despite the reclass, and it should make college coaches more optimistic about his long term upside as a shifty PG prospect that can fill the stat sheet. Nelson can score from all 3 levels with or without a ball screen, can set up an offense even when faced with physical ball pressure, come off of pindowns as a shooter, get to the free throw line, and pass off a live dribble with either hand. Although he isn't overly bursty or bouncy, the handle allows him to play with a pace that is difficult for defenders to time steals off of on the ball. If he can continue to showcase the trademark shooting and scoring, I expect his phone to begin buzzing with college interest.

-Bruiser had a phenomenal end to the IAC season and should continue to show college coaches a steady 2-way point guard that plays the game the right way as a heady playmaker. Edwards can get downhill on any guard, can pass it a high level with either hand, and showed that he can make plays in big moments for his team. Love his moxie whether he is facing a big individual matchup or a regular league opponent, he always approaches the game with the same level of tenacity. Edwards should impress as the head of the snake of the defending IAC Champions.

-Moore can really boogie as a smooth scoring guard that can create his own shot at a high level from 18' and in. He sees the floor well and exploits late or high hedges to get to his spots in the halfcourt. Love how he gets downhill and draws contact around the rim to earn easy trips to the line that get him into a shooting rhythm. If he showcases the improved shooting range beyond the arc while filling it up as the catalyst of a fun McDonogh group-- he should begin to pick up the college interest that he deserves during the scholastic period.

-Terrell finished out last season at Hillcrest Prep and will play with Riverdale Baptist during the live period under new head coach James Parker. Terrell can really fill it up as a high-level scorer that gets to his spots effectively in the halfcourt with or without a ball screen. Loved the improvements that he made to his body over the course of the season as he improved both his back foot burst with the ball in his hands and the leaping ability to finish above the rim with highlight reel dunks. Coaches should love his mix of scoring and slashing on a strong frame with a pretty aggressive mentality at both ends of the floor.

-You would be hard-pressed to find a quicker guard in the area as a floor general that darts through the defense to create easy looks for his teammates. The IQ stands out at both ends of the floor as Word gets a leg over arriving ball screens to stay in front of his man and has active hands to deflect passes on the ball at the defensive end. At the offensive end, he uses his eyes to manipulate helpers away from open shooters and play-finishers around the basket-- Word really serves as the underrated engine that makes this MSJ team go while limiting turnovers. Love his touch in the paint on floaters off or 1 or 2 feet or with runners in the key.
