UA Rise/Grind Circuits: Under The Radar 2027 Prospects

Under Armour held its spring “Live” period event in Ohio over the weekend, featuring competition across the Under Armour Association, UA Rise, and UA Grind circuits. Here is a look at a handful of prospects that should see their recruitment rise this summer.    McWhorter posted 12 points in a win over the Playmakers on Saturday in Ohio while showcasing his effectiveness as a frontcourt prospect in the 2027 class. He is most comfortable operating around the basket, where he embraces physical play, scores on the block, and consistently finishes around the rim. He rebounds well and plays with a high motor, bringing energy and activity on both ends of the floor. McWhorter also showed the ability to attack from the perimeter with straight line drives and possesses the athleticism to finish above the rim when given space.     McGrath recorded double digit scoring performances in both of our evaluations in Ohio, continuing to establish himself as a college prospect in the 2027 class. A high academic recruit, he combines positional size with strength, skill, and a high basketball IQ. McGrath is a true three level scorer who can impact the game from beyond the arc, in the midrange, and at the rim. A reliable perimeter shot maker with deep range, he consistently spaces the floor while also possessing the versatility to create offense when needed.     Newman is a high flying junior guard whose athleticism consistently stands out on the court. He is at his best in transition and when attacking the rim, where his explosiveness and aggressiveness make him a difficult matchup. Newman also uses his athleticism effectively on the offensive glass, creating extra possessions and scoring opportunities. He showed improvement with his perimeter jumper, adding another dimension to his offensive game, and competes as a capable and willing defender on the other end. With his athletic tools, improving skill set, and competitive approach, Newman is a prospect with considerable upside moving forward.     Fowler turned in an impressive weekend for Redline in Ohio, finishing with 16 points and 7 rebounds in the game we evaluated. A skilled scoring guard, he is a reliable shot maker who can score from multiple levels while consistently making smart decisions with the basketball. Fowler possesses a high basketball IQ and can comfortably handle secondary ball handling responsibilities, showing the ability to create offense for both himself and his teammates. His playmaking ability, feel for the game, and versatility in the backcourt allow him to impact winning in a variety of ways.     The frontcourt prospect scored 10 points in Saturday's win while showcasing a polished offensive skill set. Long is comfortable stepping away from the basket to knock down midrange jumpers and possesses good touch around the rim. He displayed solid footwork in the paint, including the ability to score over his left shoulder with his right hand, and consistently created quality scoring opportunities on the block. The junior can pass effectively out of the post and make the right reads when defenses collapsed. His combination of skill, footwork, touch, and offensive versatility makes him prospect for college coaches to watch this summer.
