KAMO Shootout: Standout guards (Missouri)
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Hosted by Shawnee Mission East, the annual KaMo Shootout has earned a reputation as one of the midwest’s premier summer events for high school teams.
This event tipped off on Friday and will wrap up on Sunday with championship brackets being played. Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at some of the events top performers throughout the event.
12-Liashwuon Boston, 6’4, G, 2020, Grandview (Mo.)
Boston is a guard opposing teams have to pay attention to. When he finds his rhythm, he can light it up wherever he has space. From behind the 3-point line or anywhere around the free throw line. He can also handle the ball and take defenders off his dribble. Boston is also a good passer and a can kick it out when he drives and the defense collapses on him. He brings a lot to the table.
2 — Mikel Henderson, G, 2019, Lee’s Summit North (Mo.)
Much like his teammate, Javaunte Hawkins, Lee’s Summit North guard Mikel Henderson has put together a strong spring on the grassroots circuit running with the KC Spurs. He is a quality point guard, able to handle the ball, distribute and lock guys up at the defensive end of the floor. He’s capable of playing on or off the ball and can shoot from the outside as well.
3 — Ian Jones, 6’1, G, 2019, Bolivar (Mo.)
Jones is a well-rounded guard who brings leadership and toughness to the floor. He can run the point and help get his team into its offense, but is also capable of knocking down outside shots or taking the ball to the basket. He will be among the better returning players in the Springfield area this upcoming season.
31- Glen McClintock, 6’1, PG, Rockhurst (Mo.)
A quick point guard who can get a step on defenders if they aren’t looking. McClintock is a talented player who can dribble his way out of any problem area. He keeps his head up and enjoys passing ahead to his teammates. A good team player who listens to his coach and can score if nothing else is working. He has an accurate step-back and a way of scoring around the basket.
Tyler Nelson, 6’2, G, 2019, Rockhurst (Mo.)
Nelson is a strong guard with good size and athleticism and a well-rounded skill set. He is capable of scoring the ball from the 3-point line, can get to the basket and is at his best moving without the ball.
