This past weekend, Watts Basketball and the Washington Coaches Association put on another great event at Mount Si High School. They hosted over 150 players from across the state, ranging from the class of 2029 to the graduating seniors. I am kicking off my coverage by highlighting the freshmen and sophomores who made big impressions at the event. This article highlights prospects from North Seattle and further north.

Selders is a super solid post/wing who always seems to be on balance, playing with strength, and holding his ground with poise. I got to see him play along the perimeter quite a bit more than during the winter season and was impressed with his footwork and quick decisions. He is a tough rebounder and finisher inside, but he's also a sneaky playmaker with his IQ, vision, and passing ability from different spots on the floor.

The Archbishop Murphy point man showed off some legit quickness and shiftiness with the ball. He was able to get in and out of gaps, create space, and use it for multiple purposes. He showed off some good range both off the catch and off the bounce, and was able to draw the eyes of extra defenders with the threat of his speed into gaps.

This kid has some electricity hiding in him, and it showed up with a few uncoachable shots, whether it was draining deep threes or hitting some tough floaters over defenders. He's definitely a real threat from beyond the arc and has enough quick twitch to create in the half. He's a kid who could really start to take off next winter.

Marlow is an athletic wing from Shorewood who showed his ability to play out of different spots at the showcase. He's only 6-foot-2 or 6-foot-3, but he's built strong, plays physical, and can get up and finish strong at the rim. This helped him get into pick-and-rolls as both screener and ballhandler. He shoots it well enough to be a threat catching away from the hoop, and has the strength to drive by guys with a good first step.

Smathers put up big numbers in the high school season, averaging over 30 points per game for Marysville Pilchuck. It was fun to see him play in this setting and see what translated. The first thing I noticed was his constant communication. He did a great job leading vocally for Pilchuck and continued to be a great communicator over the weekend. He's a kid who can really shoot the rock and works hard to get in on plays with constant motion and focus.
