Expert Analysis
Ryan Morgan | Prep Hoops Scout
Smathers put up big numbers in the high school season, averaging over 30 points per game for Marysville Pilchuck. It was fun to see him play in this setting and see what translated. The first thing I noticed was his constant communication. He did a great job leading vocally for Pilchuck and continued to be a great communicator over the weekend. He’s a kid who can really shoot the rock and works hard to get in on plays with constant motion and focus.

He’s put up some big scoring numbers this season, and while he has to do a lot of shot creating and needs to score on a nightly basis, he’s also shown some impressive court awareness and distribution throughout the year. He’s poised under pressure, can create space even after picking up his dribble or under double-teams, and really anticipates extra defenders well, knowing where his options will be.

He’s been putting up some big scoring numbers this season, averaging over 30 points a game. He does it with a blend of outside shooting and slicing drives to the hoop. Has ability to break down his man and get inside regularly and can really score all over the floor. Has also shown some great intangibles to compete, be vocal, and lead his team as a younger player.

Smathers is already starting and playing a key role at Pilchuck, doing a lot of playmaking for them and showing the creativity needed to incite an offense. He can score a bit too, showing a pretty good stroke out to three and has the aggressive mindset to attack gaps and work his way to the hoop.
