Prospect Spotlight: Alan Watson (2019)
BONNER SPRINGS, Mo. — Despite his size, Bonner Springs point guard Alan Watson is emerging as one of the state’s premier rising senior guards.
At just 5’8, Watson brings toughness, quickness and the ability to make plays.
“I push the ball on the offensive end with the ability to get by my defender,” he says. “I’m a leader on the court, a true point guard with a good 3-point shot. On the defensive end i’m aggressive, and pick full court.”
Last year, Watson averaged 13.7 points, 2.1 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.1 steals per game, shot 44 percent from the field and made 39 3-pointers while shooting 36 percent from behidn the arc. He and fellow 2019 guard Keyon Thomas helped the Braves finish the season 19-3 as they eventually fell to state champion Bishop Miege in the substate championship.
“(Our) team was very good although we were undersized,” Watson said. “I had a major role on the team being the point guard my coach looked for Keyon Thomas and I to really control the game and lead our team to victory.”
Watson has competed this spring for the KC Spurs and has put together a strong run with the program which has captured several tournament championships.
“The experience has been great because this group has been together for years so our chemistry is great together,” Watson said.
Watson says he is focused on getting bigger, stronger and faster throughout the offseason.
“As a small guard my frame is what’s going to make me more marketable, so that’s definitely my main focus,” Watson said.
