Prospect Spotlight: Blayne Baldwin (2019)
JOPLIN, Mo. — After putting together a strong junior season, Frontenac 2019 guard Blayne Baldwin is putting together a strong offseason for the Raiders.
He brings aggressiveness and quickness to the floor as he enjoys pushing the tempo and running the floor.
“I love being able to get everyone on my team involved and making sure they do their role,” he says.
A year ago Baldwin started roughly half the games for a .500 Frontenac squad and averaged 8 points per game. He took on the role as the team’s sixth man to give the Raiders’ bench more punch midway through the season.
“I usually play the point or shooing guard but last year I was asked to run the power forward position and had to change my game because we had no big guys,” Baldwin said.
Baldwin says the Raiders has put together a strong summer already as the team plays well together.
“My summer ball experience so far has been amazing,” Baldwin said. “The group of guys I’ve been playing with all play for each other. We are all here to help one another and get the win. We already have a good chemistry and know what everyone is thinking. The thing I’m taking from this summer is don’t take anything for granted.
“It’s my senior year and I hope to go on and play college ball somewhere. If not I’m still glad I got the chance to build a strong friendship with my coaches, teammates, and managers. Everyone is amazing at this basketball program.”
Known for his ability to get to the basket, Baldwin says he is spending the offseason focused on improving his ability to shoot off the dribble.
“The best thing about my game has always been driving to the hole,” he says. “Don’t get me wrong, I can still shoot the three ball but this program of Frontenac basketball has big things coming and being able to get a shot off a dribble will help a lot.”
