2020 Small College Wings
It is still pretty early for D3 and NAIA schools to be looking for prospects in the 2020 class, but here are a few wings that they should have on their radar this July to get an early look at!
Nick Savage (Pleasant Plains)
Travel Team: Illinois Irish
The 2020 wing can really shoot it from the perimeter. Savage has the potential to grow into a plus plus shooter from deep. He is still rounding out the others areas of his game as he is raw attacking and still growing into his body. Has a nose for the ball and is a solid rebounder from the wing position.
Paul Zilinskas (Richards)
Travel Team: Made Men
This 2020 small forward from Richards opened our eyes first during the high school season and that continued with his play for Made Men. He has size on the perimeter and can really shoot the ball. Crisp stroke from three and can hit a one dribble pull up. His ball handling has improved over the last six months as well.
Darius Buford (Bolingbrook)
Travel Team: Hoopers
This is a prospect that has the chance to elevate himself way out of this category as we just need to see him more. We had heard some buzz about this 2020 shooting guard and he definitely has some game. Buford is a bouncy wing that gets in the lane where he finished with floaters or kicked to teammates for open looks. Also did a lot of scoring at the rim.
Isaiah Burrell (Kenwood)
Travel Team: Mac Irvin Fire
Burrell like his older brothers is a high energy forward that scores his points in a junk yard dog fashion. He gets on the offensive glass for put backs and runs the floor in transition. Bouncy forward that needs to improve skill level.
Uchenna Egekeze (Hutley)
Travel Team: Fundamental U
Egekeze is the younger brother of former Huntley and Belmont standout Amanze Egekeze. They are different players. This 2020 prospect is more of a wing with a long and angular frame at 6’3”. He has a nose for the basketball always being in the right spot to make a play. Has a bit of a funky release, but drilled two threes. Moves well without the ball. Gets on the glass and is a sound passer. Great glue guy with some upside!
Micah Schnyders (Chicago Christian)
Travel Team: Mac Irvin Fire
Schnyders put himself on our radar with his play during the second half of the spring with the Mac Irvin Fire 16U. The Chicago Christian 6’1” 2020 shooting guard lit it up from beyond the three point line. His go to is letting it fly off the catch. He spots up and is ready to shoot. A bit of a long release. He has a nice shot fake and that he can drive his defender when they close too hard on him.
Daulton Burgner (Belleville Althoff)
Travel Team: Illinois Bears
This Belleville Althoff wing stands at about 6’4” with long arms. Like his rangy build and should be able to grow a couple more inches. Sweet looking stroke from mid-range. Can handle it some as well with acrobatic finishes.
Matt Ambrose (Stevenson)
Travel Team: Fundamental U
Ambrose is a coach’s son that plays with a high basketball IQ. He is best as a perimeter shooter. The Stevenson shooting guard moves well without the ball and has a knack for sliding to the right spot to have an opening to get his shot off.
Frank Jakubicek (Cary Grove)
Travel Team: Illinois Wolves
This Cary Grove 2020 forward stands at 6’5” with good strength. Tough kid that rebounds well. Crashes the glass hard. He also showed more athleticism than we had seen before with a couple nice dunks.
Terry Pelczynski (Nashville)
Travel Team: Illinois Bears
He has broad shoulders and excellent upper body strength. Has some toughness on the boards and can shoot the ball. Can hit a mid-range jumper and stretch it out to three on occasion. Projects as a small college combo forward.
