MISSOURI SOUTHERN: Top Stock Risers (Guards)
JOPLIN, Mo. — Several Kansas area schools and players kicked off the 2018 summer camp schedule with competition at Missouri Southern Team Camp in Joplin.
The event drew nearly 50 teams from Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma and featured a host of talented players.
Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at several talented guards who stood out on Friday.
21-Blaine Baldwin, 6’2, G, 2019, Frotenac
Baldwin is a smooth point guard with a soft touch. He can feed teammates in half court settings and score easily near the basket with a one-handed finger-roll off the glass. Baldwin has good height for a guard in his position and can get a hand on passes and shots around him. His smooth touch can also be seen in his corner 3-point shots.
24- Gavyn Elkamil, 6’3, G, 2020, Pittsburg
An impressive gamer who knows how to get on the board and make those around him better. Elkamil has a nice feel on the floor, someone who can handle the ball for himself and play off the ball at a high level. He attracts a lot of attention and can sink 3-pointers and jump shots with defenders in his face. If this guy is calling for the ball, opposing team’s had better be ready.
10-Javon Grant, 5’11, G, 2021, Pittsburg
Grant is a shifty point guard who can create space and get to the basket. He has little trouble getting the ball up the floor and can find his way through a crowd when the game is on the line. Grant likes keeping his teammates involved and is always looking to pass ahead for a fast break or find an opening and create a shot for a teammate behind the line.
2 — Daquon Johnson, 6’0, G, 2020, Parsons
One of several talented Parsons’ players in its 2020 class, Johnson showed off a lot of talent on Friday in Joplin, playing above the rim at both ends of the floor, handling the ball and finishing plays in transition. He puts a lot of pressure on the ball defensively due to his length and quickness and forced several turnovers during the games we watched.
13 — Patch Loadholtz, 6’1, G, 2019, Parsons
13 is a tough, physical guard who plays hard and competes. He is a willing rebounder and a hard worker at the defensive end of the floor. At the offensive end, he is at his best attacking the basket where he shows the ability to finish through contact.
