Of the eight teams that made the 6th Region tournament field, Butler ascended the thrown as champions for the first time since 2019. The Bears will face the 14th Region champion on Thursday in the first round of the UK Healthcare Boys Basketball Sweet 16. Before we get too deep in state champion predictions, let's take a look back at some under the radar talent that made a statement in the 6th Region tournament.

Anderson walked away with All-Tournament Team honors after helping Butler to the 6th Region championship title. He did a little bit of everything, but his defensive contributions were the most valuable down the stretch. I'm not sure Butler punches its Sweet 16 ticket without the plethora of steals and defensive stops that Anderson racked up. He showcased incredible anticipation, somehow beating the offense to its spot more often than not. If a 6th Region Tournament Defensive MVP award existed, Santana would have my vote.

Barjolo is regarded as a defensive specialist, despite being a double-digit scorer for the Bears. His athleticism makes him Butler's best option for its most physically threatening opponents, but Barjolo is capable of knocking down shots and finishing around the rim in his own right. He put the full gamut of his abilities on display throughout the 6th Region tournament, scoring a team-high 16 PTS in a tight semifinal matchup. He followed that performance up by connecting on two much needed 3PT opportunities in the title game to help Butler reach the Sweet 16.

Glenn led Jeffersontown in scoring (13.7 PPG) through a 6th Region tournament run that led to the Chargers' fourth title game appearance in only five years. With so much attention on other offensive threats, Glenn deployed a devious approach to facilitation that often resulted in easy buckets for himself. Whether it was going full court to beat the buzzer; slithering his way to the rim through traffic; or knocking down open shots from long distance, he proved himself to be reliable down the stretch. Definitely a name to watch for next season.

When we speak of "physically threatening opponents," guys like Westmoreland are the first to come to mind. Basketball happens to be the second sport for the University of Kentucky football commit, but what he does on the hardwood looks like second nature. High-level intensity on defense and the ability to finish around the rim on the other end of the court came easy for the junior forward, but his ability to knock down shots might've stood out the most in the 6th Region tournament.

Now at DeSales, Delling is one of the best long-distance shooters in the state and he proved why in the Colts' tournament run. He took full advantage of the attention drawn by [player_tooltip player_id='1543630' first='Cameron' last='Bischoff'] and connected on 11/17 3PT FG attempts through quarterfinal and semifinal matchups. He has a lightning quick release that allowed him to get his shot off nearly every time he saw fit. Delling will likely return as one of the best shooters in the 6th Region next season, but if he's able to become a more reliable defender over the summer, he has chance to be a more well-rounded problem for 6th Region competition.

Sykes ended a great career at DuBois doing what he did best for the Lions, controlling the boards. At his size, he didn't rack up 750 rebounds in his career by chance but instead through pure heart and hustle. Not to mention a keen court awareness and a level of agility that gave him a knack for finding the ball. He averaged 7.5 RPG through DuBois' first showing in the 6th Region tournament and proved why he's been one of the most dominant big men in Louisville over the past few seasons.

Eubanks is yet another name that often falls through the cracks of Kentucky's loaded 2028 class. He plays a traditional big man's game that most basketball aficionados would appreciate. Protecting the rim, running the floor, clean footwork and smart decision-making in the post are all in Noah's bag. He helped lead the Cougars to the 6th Region tournament for the first time since 2022 in his breakout sophomore campaign. Despite the loss, his quarterfinal performance that included a team-high in PTS (20) and REB (9) is indicative of Noah's long-term potential.

[player_tooltip player_id='1565742' first='Keion' last='Gray'] ended his career as a Panther with a bang in the 6th Region quarterfinals. On a tough night on the offensive end for PRP, Gray was one of the lone bright spots and the most consistent volume scorer. He finished with a game-high 22 PTS, almost double his season average in addition to pulling down 6 REB. He was also effective on the defensive side of the ball, using his athleticism to alter shots at the rim and lateral quickness to make things as tough as possible for Butler's guards. Hats off to Gray's effort.
