Standouts from Nike Memorial Day Classic
The annual Nike Memorial Day Classic tournament was held last weekend at Suwanee Sports Academy. Many prospects impressed with their play and helped their teams advance in the tournament. Here is who stood out at the Nike Memorial Day Classic:
Chandler Minton (Inspire Atlanta)– Chandler Minton (pictured) is a strong point guard who excels in the half court. He finished well at the rim and made a few tough shots from the outside. Minton is a solid D2/D3 prospect and finished with 16 points in a loss to Team Attack.
Frank Champion (Team Attack)– Champion was Mr. Do It All for Team Attack last weekend. He is very versatile as he rebounds, handles the ball, and can score from all three levels. He finished with 20 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds against Inspire Atlanta. A rising junior, look for Champion to make some noise next season at Arabia Mountain.
Tre Clark (Team EAT)– The rising senior had an impressive showing last weekend. He is relentless in the open court and reminds me a lot of Collin Sexton when he was on the AAU Circuit. He scored at the rim and on the perimeter, but also showed that he can make plays for his teammates. Clark finished with 24 points and 5 assists against Jackson Tigers EYBL. With Ashton Hagans leaving early for Kentucky, Clark should have a much bigger role next season at Newton.
William Young (Select One)– William Young is a smooth operator on the perimeter. He is a true point forward at 6’4 with his ball handling ability. Young is a special talent in that he is a great scorer with a pass first mentality. He was the key factor in his team’s championship run in the tournament.
Dylan Sloss (North Metro Elite)– Sloss is a knock down shooter. He hit 6 threes in the first half against Atlanta Select and ended up hitting 8 for the game. Sloss finished with 29 points in a win against Atlanta Select.
Kenny White (Hoop Dreams)– Standing at 6’6, Kenny White was a mismatch problem for opposing teams. He handles the ball and shoots well from three-point distance. White plays the game at his own speed, and most players at his size could not guard him on the wing. He finished well at the rim and altered many shots with his length.
Khalil Jones (Team Attack)– Jones is very aggressive on both ends of the floor. He shoots the ball well from deep and his range extends out to the NBA three-point line. When his shot was not falling, Jones attacked the rim aggressively and shot many free throws as a result. Jones is a solid prospect to watch for the next couple years.
