Expert Analysis
Devin Ugland | Prep Hoops Scout
Acy is one of the biggest upside prospects in the country and he showed as much throughout the spring and summer club seasons. The versatile 6-foot-6 wing uses his long, wiry frame and fluid athleticism to put pressure on the rim with downhill drives in transition and half-court offense and finishes off those paint touch opportunities with a blend of skill, touch and physicality. Acy is at his best as a slasher and scorer but has shown improved confidence in his perimeter jumper, ball handling and creating. Where Acy really shines is with his defensive versatility and ability to rebound in and out of his area.

I’m not sure any player helped themselves at Team USA minicamp more than Acy did. Acy looked incredible as a wing creator with real counters and his advanced dribble moves for a player his size and explosiveness makes him such a tough cover. Another young wing prospect from a Dad who was a high motor power forward, Acy and Rj Evans will be linked due to their similar style games that are both very different from their dads. Acy is looking to make a name for himself and he looks well on his way to doing that with his natural scoring ability, frame and quick twitch athleticism. When Acy is coming down the lane, fans and videographers need to lock in because he has the potential to throw down a monster dunk at any time.

Acy checks in as our top wing in the 2029 class because of his combination of athleticism and physical tools. The 6-foot-6 rising sophomore, who transferred from Alemany to Chaminade in the spring, has broad shoulders, an impressive wingspan and fluidity asa. lane-filler and rim-runner in transition. Acy is one of those prospects who attacks the rim fearlessly and looks to dunk everything around the basket. When you add in his perimeter ball skills and flashes of high IQ passing/playmaking, you have a prototypical high-level wing prospect.

Austin Acy was a constant slashing threat from the opening tip, immediately setting the tone with his freight-train mentality. He got downhill with power and speed, consistently blowing by or through defenders while finishing through traffic and contact with outstanding body control, balance, and confidence. He was one of the most consistent finishers around the rim all weekend. Acy routinely turned defensive rebounds into coast-to-coast opportunities, not by relying solely on blazing speed, but by playing at a controlled pace that allowed him to dictate angles and driving lanes. His smooth handle made it easy to string together crossovers, hesitations, in-and-out dribbles, behind-the-back moves, and hang dribbles without breaking rhythm, keeping defenders off balance throughout the possession. He also made a tremendous impact on the glass, using his powerful base to dislodge opponents on box-outs, his long arms to secure rebounds at their highest point, and his quick second jump to beat everyone else to the ball.

Acy was a double-double threat – points and rebounds – every time he took the floor for the Warriors as his 6-foot-4 frame, combined with his quick-twitch athleticism and high motor made him one of the most productive underclass wings in the state. Acy, who is the son of former NBA forward Quincy Acy, can do a little bit of everything offensively, is active on the offensive and defensive glass and brings versatility to the defensive end of the floor with his length, lateral speed and instincts. His long, wiry frame and explosive athleticism make him a potential high major target in the 2029 class.
