Prospect Spotlight: Don Edmondson (2019)
INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — Truman 2019 guard Donald Edmondson has largely flown under the radar as a high school prospect, but is putting together a strong spring competing for the KC Pacers.
A 6’3 guard, Edmondson is known for his ability to knock down outside shots, but can handle the ball a little as well and competes at the defensive end of the court.
“i would describe myself as a shooting guard who will give his team non stop effort on D and does what the team needs to win,” he says.
Edmondson’s Truman squad this season struggled to a 2-24 record, but he says he learned a lot as he averaged 10 points and five rebounds per game for the Patriots.
“My high school team this past season was very young and small so things didn’t go quite like we wanted, but we started to mesh together late in the season,” he says. “My role was to step up and lead the team and i feel i got a lot of experience in that category.”
Edmonson has carved out a key role this spring with the KC Pacers Blue squad, helping the team advance to the semifinals of the Platinum bracket this weekend at the KC Classic in Lawrence, Kan.
“My summer team is great,” Edmondson says. “It’s a fun group of guys that push each other to get the best out of everyone. “My coach has really worked with me to become an elite shooter and I feel I’m making strides toward that shooting over 40 percent from the 3-point line so far this summer.
“I hope to take away the leadership role to my high school team and to a college team if I were given the opportunity.”
Edmondson says his focus this offseason is continuing to refine his outside shooting and become an all-around player.
“I’m focused on becoming an elite shooter and also developing more of an inside game this summer while keeping all my intensity on D,” he says.
