Welcome to Wednesday Film Room, a weekly breakdown highlighting five standout performers from a single matchup. Each edition digs into the plays, moments, and statistics that allowed these players to leave their mark. It's a chance to dive into the film and spotlight the efforts that shaped the outcome. This week, we got back to last Friday's matchup between Christ Church and Southside Christian, two teams who I have been eagerly waiting on to check in on for the first time this season.

Leading off the standouts from Christ Church vs Southside Christian is [player_tooltip player_id='2361714' first='Jonathan' last='Perry']. Perry is the Cavaliers' best player and the likely front-runner for 3A Region 2 Player of the Year. He always brings a level of balance to his team when he's on the floor because he can bring the ball up and run the offense, work off the catch to stretch the floor or attack the rim, and help out on defense. Jonathan's early left-wing three set him up to attack closeouts for the rest of the game, and consistent outside shooting could be a game-changer for Christ Church in the playoffs.

Anthony is one of the biggest difference-makers for the Cavaliers during the regular season and someone who will have a huge role if they make a run to Columbia. He had an extremely impressive box score in Friday's win over the Sabres, racking up 6 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists, and 5 steals in a team-high 26 minutes. Atkins is a terrific defender on the ball, off the ball, and on the glass, so when he can chip in with a successful offensive game, as he did on Friday, it makes Christ Church a difficult team to beat. Anthony will be a football player at the next level, but he has unfinished business on the basketball court and will look to go out on top with another State Championship.

Christ Church has a pair of freshmen who have been impactful this season, but Young was the more consistent of the two against Southside Christian. He had a couple of nice finishes in transition and the half-court in the first half, then really put an emphasis on the defensive end in the second half. Ty has flashed some perimeter shot-making over the course of the season, but Friday night was one of those where he impacted the game without hitting jumpers. He tallied 8 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 steals in the win.

Gibson stepped up off the bench despite the loss to the region champs. He went for 7 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists, providing his group with a secondary playmaker against the athletic opposing defense. Askew doesn't tend to play a high speed, but he controls the pace to his liking and can craftily attack the paint. He also has a little bit of a knack for moving defenders with eyes and handle to create bigger passing lanes. It wasn't the best day for the Sabres as a team, but Gibson is one of the reasons why they should be excited for the future.

Rounding out the standouts from this week's Wednesday Film Room is a new name to know, [player_tooltip player_id='3490586' first='Max' last='Hayden'], who put up 5 assists in Friday's game. Hayden is the 8th Grade starting Point Guard for Southside Christian, who is already well-experienced against older and high-level competition. Max has a really good feel for finding his teammates and putting them in good spots, and his only turnovers were when he was too unselfish and tried to force passes. As he gets older and more comfortable as a scorer, Hayden could become one of the best players in his class.
