January’s Scoring Explosions (Guards)

This year, January became the month where scoring took center stage. Whether it was three-level scoring, deep-range shooting, or relentless downhill pressure, these outings stood out not just for point totals, but for efficiency, and impact. Here's a look at some of January's top scoring performances that defined the month and started the year off right.

[player_tooltip player_id='2546876' first='Gavin' last='Peck'] has been playing some of his best basketball of the season, capping the month with a spectacular 45-point performance. He got hot early from beyond the arc, knocking down three-pointers both off the catch and off the bounce, including some of the most difficult and demoralizing deep range makes I've seen all season. Peck stayed aggressive without the ball, thriving off screens and Iverson cuts, and finished the night with seven made three-pointers, putting constant pressure on the defense every time he came off an action.

[player_tooltip player_id='2503742' first='Madden' last='Hill'] delivered his second 40-point outing of the season, erupting for 42 points in a win over Deer Park. His performance continued to reinforce why he's steadily emerging as one of the best point guards in Houston regardless of class. Hill has developed a college-ready skill set that allows him to impact the game both on and off the ball, knocking down threes in a variety of actions, such as pindowns, drift downs to the corner off kick-outs, and deep spot-up looks with college range. What separates Hill is his ability to score efficiently with minimal dribbling while consistently operating within the flow of the offense.

Josh Goodwin recently turned in his most dynamic performance of the season, posting 31 points and 14 rebounds while showcasing outstanding athleticism and elite shot creation off the bounce. Goodwin consistently broke defenders down with tight between-the-legs combinations, delayed blow-bys, and shifty hesitations, highlighting a reactive and advanced handle.

Sloan has been shooting the cover off the ball throughout January, knocking down three or more three-pointers per game with elite efficiency from the perimeter.
