We are over the halfway point of the season and the class of 2029 is carving out their roles on their respective varsity teams. As with every class, some player have had more immediate success with playing time as well as counting stats while others are impacting games in ways that don't show up in the box score. This article is going to highlight some of the Top Freshman in the Southwest Indiana Area:

• Cade Baker | Castle | 5'10” | Guard

Castle as a team has struggled throughout the season after losing essentially all of the varsity production from a year ago to graduation or transfer. Despite the struggles, Cade Baker has been a bright spot and a nice look into what's to come in the future. He's a high IQ guard that's comfortable playing on or off the ball. Confident shooter with a smooth stroke, though shooting just 20% from three on the year. He's a centerpiece for the Castle Knights Basketball future that is holding his own in every game.

Stats: 4.7 points | 1.8 rebounds | 1.2 assists

• [player_tooltip player_id='2889976' first='Romyiez' last='Calvin'] | Evansville Harrison | 6'5” | Forward

Evansville Harrison came into the season in a similar situation as Castle with a lot of production lost to graduation. I had no idea just how good the freshman class for the Warriors really was and it all starts with [player_tooltip player_id='2889976' first='Romyiez' last='Calvin']. The 6'5” Forward has been outstanding in every outing that I've seen him this season. He plays with a maturity to his game along with his unique size and skill set. Impacts the game on both ends of the floor. Relentless rebounder with the ability to push in transition and has creativity to his game when finishing at the rim as well as playmaking with others. In the half court on the offensive end, he continues to expand his game out to the perimeter as a shooter. He's becoming a good shooter that requires attention off the catch.

Stats: 14 points | 8.2 rebounds

• [player_tooltip player_id='2934109' first='Camden' last='Clowers'] | North Posey | 6'1” | Guard

Smooth left handed guard that is coming into his own with the speed of the varsity game. Excellent has a dual threat in the pick and role game. He's really good at changing his speed to keep defenses off balance. He shows a clean stroke from three-point range, but has struggled to get them to fall. He's lengthy on the defensive end with active hands. He pushes the tempo really well and plays unselfishly. Second leading scorer for North Posey this season and only getting better as he gains more experience.

Stats: 9.3 points | 2.2 rebounds | 2.7 assists

• [player_tooltip player_id='3438759' first='Brody' last='Deal'] | Tecumseh | 6'0” | Forward

A three-sport athlete at Tecumseh that continues to get comfortable with the speed of the varsity game. Was a starter from Day 1 this season until an illness knocked him out for almost two weeks, [player_tooltip player_id='3438759' first='Brody' last='Deal'] is a a high energy wing/forward that makes his name on the defensive end. He's a versatile defender that can guard multiple positions and rebounds well for his size. Offensively the ball doesn't stick in his hands. Though he's not relied upon to score, he's a capable shooter off the catch and is an excellent cutter off the ball that can finish around the basket.

Stats: N/A

• [player_tooltip player_id='3254540' first='Grayson' last='Dease'] | Evansville Reitz | 6'6” | Wing

[player_tooltip player_id='3254540' first='Grayson' last='Dease'] could very well be the best long term prospect in the area for the Class of 2029. He's a fluid athlete with a nice blend of size and skill. Confident on the offensive end, he's a crafty scorer that's comfortable all over the floor. Smooth shooter off the catch and the dribble. Not the quickest player but uses his body well to play through contact and get to his spot in the lane. Intriguing court vision for his size. He's able to make any pass on the floor and can initiate offense. He impacts the game on both ends with his size and length. Leads Evansville Reitz in rebounding and block shots. Still a young prospect that once he gets a consistent motor, he will be that much more effective.

Stats: 11.8 points | 7.2 rebounds | 1.6 assists | 1 steal | 1.5 blocks

• [player_tooltip player_id='2972974' first='Wyatt' last='Frazier'] | Evansville Mater Dei | 6'5” | Forward

Wyatt is a versatile Forward that is splitting time between JV and Varsity for Evansville Mater Dei. Big time athlete that impacts the game on both ends of the floor. Does a good job playing his role as a rebounder and defender on the varsity, but in JV games he plays aggressively on the offensive end with a lot of tools. He's a fluid athlete that can play inside out. He rebounds at a high level and is a physical presence that finishes around the basket at a high rate.

Stats: N/A

• [player_tooltip player_id='3219910' first='Ethan' last='Hampton'] | Evansville Bosse | 6'6” | Wing/Forward

The 6'6” Evansville Bosse Product is starting to play his best basketball. Coming off the bench for one of the best teams in the area, it allows him to settle into his role without having to force the issue. Offensively he's a solid three-point shooter that will make teams pay when left open. The off the dribble creation has been shown limitedly simply because that's not what he is asked to do. He's a good rebounder on both ends of the floor and plays with a high motor. He's made his biggest impact on the defensive end as a sensational on-ball defender and a shot blocker. His size and skill set would allow him to be capable of having a bigger role but is a team first, unselfish player that has excelled at his role all season long and the best is yet to come.

Stats: 5 points | 4 rebounds | 2 blocks

• [player_tooltip player_id='2989747' first='Maddux' last='Miller'] | Tecumseh | 5'9” | Guard

Getting comfortable to the speed of the varsity game didn't take nearly as long as I thought it would take for him. Full disclosure, I coached both [player_tooltip player_id='2989747' first='Maddux' last='Miller'] and [player_tooltip player_id='3438759' first='Brody' last='Deal'] from Tecumseh while they were in middle school. I knew the basketball IQ was there, but thought the physicality of the game was going to give him trouble. Always known as a guy that needed to score for his teams to be successful, Maddux has changed his game to becoming an effective true point guard off the bench. High IQ player that sees the floor extremely well and thinks the game two plays ahead. His jump shot is a work in progress, but if he's open you have to respect it. He's a solid pick and roll player that takes what the defense gives him. Defensively, he's opportunistic on when he tries to go for steals. He's an integral part of the rebuilding process and his skill set will continue to make him one of the better true point guards in the area as he keeps maturing.

Stats: N/A

• [player_tooltip player_id='3253027' first='Aiden' last='Terry'] | Evansville Harrison | 6'1” | Guard

As I mentioned above when speaking about Evansville Harrison's freshman class, I didn't know they were this good heading into the year. The two headed monster of [player_tooltip player_id='2889976' first='Romyiez' last='Calvin'] and [player_tooltip player_id='3253027' first='Aiden' last='Terry'] have been one of the top duos in the area. Terry is a 6'1” left handed guard that is a pure bucket getter. Crafty handle that lets helps him get to his spot. He's a strong guard that can punish smaller defenders while being able to hold his own against bigger, more athletic defenders on the outside. He's a smooth shooter that can get hot in a hurry. Capable of shooting both off the bounce and off the dribble. Defensively he's a versatile due to his length. He guards multiple positions while being a solid rebounder at his position. The young Harrison Warriors get better and better every time I see them play, but the best is yet to come.

• South Knox Three Freshman

Not very often you get a team that starts two freshman on the varsity, let alone three. In the game I was able to watch on stream, [player_tooltip player_id='3442281' first='Cole' last='Worland'], [player_tooltip player_id='3442287' first='Reece' last='Yoder'], and [player_tooltip player_id='3442380' first='Owen' last='Keyes'] were all in the starting lineup for the Spartans.

• [player_tooltip player_id='3442281' first='Cole' last='Worland'] | 6'1” | Guard

Worland is the most physical of the three players. Hes comfortable playing inside and out. He plays with a high motor and impacts the game on both ends of the floor. Excellent cutter off the ball with good hands that allows to finish around the basket on a variety of different ways. Didn't hit a three in the stream that I watched, but has a smooth release with a balanced base.

• [player_tooltip player_id='3442287' first='Reece' last='Yoder'] | 5'8” | Guard

Scrappy lead guard that has no wasted movements on the offensive end. Excellent ball mover that balances scoring and facilitating really well. Crafty ball handler that gets to his spots and can finish with a variety of different ways. Tempo pusher in transition that plays with his head up. Defensively he has active hands and can pressure full court with his quickness.

• [player_tooltip player_id='3442380' first='Owen' last='Keyes'] | 6'0” | Wing

High energy versatile wing that impacts the game on both ends. Active defender that guards multiple positions and rebounds at a high level for his position. Offensively he's a good cutter off the ball that finishes around the basket. He's a ball mover on the perimeter. He showed the ability to catch and rip through and get to the basket.
