LAWRENCE, Kan. — The Midwest Live tournament in Lawrence, Kan. featured several standout performances. Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at several guards who stood out this weekend.
Cade Berg, 6’6, F, 2020, Blue Springs (Mo.), Missouri Team Carroll
An athletic wing player, Berg put together a big weekend at the 16U level, showcasing the ability put points on the board, rebound and play a versatile, inside-out brand of basketball.
Tyem Freeman, 6’6, F/G, 2019, Parkview (Mo.), MIssouri Team Carroll
The oohs and awes heard from Court 1 could be heard several courts away on Saturday as Tyem Freeman threw down several eye-popping slams against the Chicago Demons. He is a superb athlete who handles the ball, can shoot from the outside and can get to the basket with ease. He has committed to Missouri State.
Cade McGaugh, 6’3, G, 2019, Maize (Kan.), Epps
Smooth wing play who can handle the ball, defend multiple spots and showcases a diverse skill set. Needs to get strong and play through contact a little better, but xx showed on Saturday he is a player to watch this upcoming season.
Caleb Muia, 6’2, G, 2019, Girard (Kan.), Victory
Muia threw down some impressive slams throughout the weekend as he showed off his length and athleticism. He is a long, rangy athlete with good quickness and the ability to defend multiple positions as well as run the floor where he is terrific in transition.
Jack Souder, 6’3, G/F, 2020, Blue Valley North (Kan.), KC Spurs Black
A slasher who is moves well without the ball and finds himself open a lot around the basket. Has the ability to attack the basket off the bounce and got to the free throw line several times on Friday against Speed 2020. He has good size and athleticism and uses it well at both ends of the floor.
