Prep Hoops Route 66 Kickoff: Notable 17U Stock Risers
Tons of 17U prospects this weekend with forty-six 17U teams in action. In my travels throughout the weekend, here are some notable stock risers. Definitely some impressive names on the list.
Cecil Lee (2019)- KC Pacers Blue 17U
Cecil was an impressive prospect over the weekend. 6’4’’ and athletic, Cecil showed he can do a little bit of everything. Sunday he caught an early oop, displayed good ball control on a fast break, and put effort into rebounding.
He also showed that he was comfortable with his back to the basket, creating opportunities in the paint.
Jadun McCarty (2019)- Team Harden 17U
Jadun is a motored up athlete who was very impressive Saturday evening in Team Harden’s loss to the KC Spurs.
He’s a tough kid who has an impact on both sides of the ball and is best in transition where he really shows his explosiveness. In a halfcourt setting, he attacked a lack luster closeout and proved he could finish versus contact against a secondary defender. Very impressed with this young man.
Kylon Bryant (2019) RL9 Elite 17U
Kylon is another motored up athlete who seemed to be everywhere on the court. He did an exceptional job at rotating to help protect the rim and seemed to take a lot of pride in doing-so.
He was very active on the glass using his willpower and athleticism to create second chance opportunities for RL9 Elite.
Malik Cartwright (2019)- All-Arkansas Red 17U
Malik came out with guns blazing Sunday morning doing a little bit of everything. It started with his defensive presence, serving as an effective rim protector and factor on the boards.
He’s good in transition and comfortable leading the break and can finish around the rim well. Definitely someone to watch this summer.
KB Davis (2019)- Texas Tigers Gold 17U
KB impressed for the Texas Tigers showing his versatility as a prospect. Defensively he kept his head on a swivel in order to help his teammates out using his athleticism to contest shots at the rim and get out in transition.
He also has the ability to step out and hit from long-range or slash into the defense and get in the paint.
Dalen Ridgnal (2019)- KC Spurs 17U
If you don’t know Dalen by now, it’s probably time to start paying him some mind. He has had a solid weekend but really rose to the occasion against Team Harden 17U on Saturday night.
No player had the defensive impact that he had in that game as he played with a lot of fire and intensity that fueled the rest of his teammates. Dalen was also able to finish at the rim versus contact and battled an opponent on the other end that he was giving up height and weight to.
Xavier Cork (2019)- Dallas Showtyme Elite 17U
Xavier impressed Friday night and continued to impress Saturday. He continued the trend of contesting and often getting a hand on a lot of shots at the rim. Also, he showed good on ball defense on the perimeter when he was guarding a non-post player, keeping his hands up and sliding.
He was exceptional on the offensive boards yet again as he is long enough to keep the ball alive and has a good enough touch to finish around the rim with defenders near him.
