Prep Hoops takes a look at the Toast of the Coast this season on the Grand Strand (Myrtle Beach).
Player of the Year : Jimmy Nichols (2018) Conway HS
Nichols was sure not s surprise here at all. Nichols a left-handed forward will play next season at Providence and is ranked #4 in the 2018 Palmetto State Class. Nichols helped the Tigers win 2 playoff games this season there first since 1994. Nichols averaged 18 ppg and 10 rebound this season. The Tigers were ousted in the 3rd round by Blythewood.
Nichols was named 5A State Player of the Year and finished his career with 1,092 points, 605 rebounds and 142 blocks for the Tigers.
Travis Walters (2018) Loris HS
Walters had a magical season for the Lions. Walters a walking double-double it seemed helped the Lions (19-1) to the 3rd round of the playoffs before losing to Wade Hampton (Hampton) 61-53. Walters averaged 18.3 ppg and 14 rebounds this season. Walters 6’2 plays so much bigger than his size on the floor.
Walters finished his career with 816 points and 828 rebounds for the Lions.
Shaquille Johnson (2018) Green Sea-Floyds HS (Green Sea)
Johnson was up and down all season for the Trojans. Johnson a physically gifted young man averaged 21.3 ppg to lead the area in scoring while grabbing 10.3 rebounds a night. Johnson likes to work the baseline and is limited on the perimeter. Johnson a football player had a 5 touchdown game this season. Johnson played just one season here at Green Sea-Floyds after playing at West Bladen (NC). Johnson will need to entertain junior college options.
Robert Swanson (2018) Myrtle Beach HS
Swanson was the catalyst for the Seahawks for the past several seasons. Swanson averaged 19.9 ppg this season and finished his career with 1,268 points. Swanson a academic qualifier can really find the open man on the floor and knockdown shots at high percentage.
Jahrique Isaiah (2019) Loris HS
Isaiah was the ultimate stat sheet stuffer this season for the Lions. Isaiah a point guard averaged 12.1 ppg, 7.1 assists, 5.3 steals and 4.4 rebounds for the Lions. Isaiah also excels on the football field as a wide receiver. Isaiah caught 25 passes last season for 458 yards.
Mike Green (2019) Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach
Green a left-handed off guard already is the leading scorer in Saints basketball history with 1,726 points. Green averaged 20.8 ppg, 5.6 rebounds and 4.9 rebounds this season for the 18-10 Saints. Green connected on (92-183) from 3 point-range this season. Green told Prep Hoops that he will AAU with Georgia Stars EYBL this spring.
