For my first stop of the night, I went to Wilmington Charter for their season opener as they hosted the Quakers of Wilmington Friends. Friends led the whole way and came out on top 58-40. Here's who stood out:

[player_tooltip player_id='2703278' first='Bryce' last='Jackson'] | 5'10 G 2027 Wilmington Friends

Jackson was the engine behind the Quakers attack on offense and defense. He made a living in the paint, using his suddenness to get past his man and the help defender. Jackson also drew a number of fouls and got to the line for 10 attempts. His assertiveness routinely created openings for others as well. Defensively, he blitzed ball-handlers and made them give the ball up. Jackson put the finishing touches on the game in the fourth quarter when he scored 11 of his 24 points and tallied about 5 assists and 4 steals.

[player_tooltip player_id='3174419' first='Colton' last='Loeffler'] | 6'1 W 2029 Wilmington Friends

In his first varsity game, Loeffler was tough and agile on the wing. He competed on defense and played with effort on the glass. Then Loeffler got hot in the third when he drove for a pair of layups and cashed in a three off the catch. He scored 9 points in total, plus a couple boards.

[player_tooltip player_id='2746811' first='Cooper' last='Strauss'] | 6'1 W 2026 Wilmington Friends

Effective below the rim, Strauss rumbled on the glass for offensive and defensive rebounds. His physicality inside lifted the Quakers who didn't have much size in the front court. And his ability to absorb contact generated a few second-chance points. Strauss had 7 points and at least 6 rebounds.

[player_tooltip player_id='3175602' first='Nathan' last='Lopez'] | 6'6 W 2026 Wilmington Charter

The lanky wing displayed some interesting physical tools and movement skills with his activity. Defensively, he used his long arms to contest and disrupt instead of just trying to block shots. Lopez also communicated with teammates on that end. Offensively, Lopez attacked the basket off the dribble and got to the free throw line and extended possessions with rebounds. He put up 9 points and about 6 boards.

Anthony Szczerba | 5'10 G 2026 Wilmington Charter

Szczerba paced the Force with his creation off the bounce. He made a concerted effort to get to the cup, driving past and/or through defenders for tough layups and floaters. And when his primary defender went under the ball screen, Szczerba pulled up for three. He also kept up the intensity on defense, coming away with a steal, a block and a handful of rebounds on his way to 13 points.
