Spring Storylines: Class of 2021
The high school basketball season has wrapped up and we are about to hit the road for a long spring of travel team coverage at PrepHoopsIllinois! Let’s look at 3 Storylines in the 2021 Class to track this spring!
Battle for #1
PrepHoopsIllinois will not rank the 2021 class for a little while. The earliest that we could do that would be after the spring in June. There are several prospects in contention for the top spot. The leader heading into the spring is Rolling Meadows do it all guard/wing Max Christie. The 6’4” prospect had a stellar freshman campaign posting big time numbers while still showing more room to grow physically and in this game. There are several other prospects that will make their case to take it from Christie in the initial ranking.
Evals on Prospects That Didn’t Gets Much Varsity Time
One of the hardest parts of evaluating prospects as freshman is some play a ton on varsity, others get sparing minutes, while many don’t play on the varsity squad at all. For us seeing prospects like Ahamad Bynum (Simeon), Tevin Smith (Danville), and Isaiah Barnes (Romeoville) more this spring will be crucial early evals because all three saw little time on varsity for veteran teams.
Strong Group of Wings
Early on the wings seem to be the strength of the 2021 class with Christie, Bynum, Smith, Barnes, Brandon Weston (Lake Forest Academy), Jaylin Gibson (Evanston), Blake Peters (Evanston), Jalen Butler (Niles North), and Amar Augillard (Zion Benton) being just a few of the prospects that we have identified early as potential D1 guys.
