Alan Griffin to Illini
Illinois finally found its running mate with Ayo Dosunmu on Friday with the commitment of Archbishop Stepinac (NY) product Alan Griffin. PrepHoopsIllinois covered Griffin early in his career when he played at Oak Park River Forest High School in Chicago. He recently picked up an offer from the Illini and on Friday announced that he was taking it via his twitter.
The lengthy wing has some offensive versatility that he brings to the table. This season he averaged 18.9 points, 9.8 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 2 steals per game this year. According to one of the most trusted scouts on the east coast Griffin has lived up to his potential early on in his career that we saw.
He played with The Rens on the Nike EYBL circuit last summer where he averaged 7.1 points while shooting 47% from the field. While he has a handful of mid-major and low-major offers on the table it looks like this is trending toward a late high-major sign.
Griffin has a close relationship with Dosunmu from their time in Chicago and Illini assistant Orlando Antigua was the lead on this recruitment building the relationship in recent months. He visited Illinois unofficially last summer.
His younger brother from what I am told is one of the best 2021 prospects on the east coast.
