is quite focused. The Central Catholic senior is quarterbacking the Rams through the 6A playoffs and the team has reached the semifinals. But as the 6-foot-3 athlete excels on the gridiron, he does so knowing his collegiate future is set. Long will be continuing his athletic pursuits in basketball at the Division I level and when the early signing period began last week, he announced that he's signed with Loyola University Maryland.
The recruiting process with the Greyhounds - who are members of the Patriot League - was a fast one. They initially saw Long play on the AAU circuit this past spring and summer with the Cascade Kings , and in the fall assistant coach Kevin Farrell came to Portland to watch Long perform at a Central Catholic open gym. From there the ball got rolling.
"Coach Farrell came and watched me play within weeks of contacting me then after he watched they offered," Long said. "So they knew what they wanted and they felt comfortable with me from the start."
From there, it was about Long being comfortable with Loyola. He made a trip to Baltimore to take an official visit to the school last weekend after Central Catholic's opening round playoff win over Newberg, and everything checked out both on and off the court.
"Well it's back home on the East Coast and I met the team and they reminded me a lot about our team we have at Central and that pulled me closer for sure," Long said. "They play fast and very similar to us and my game translates into that."
It didn't take long after that for Long to decide he wanted to be a Greyhound. While his college decision is set, he knows there's still work to be done on the court and he noted he's looking at improving on speeding his game, his communication skills, and overall being more confident this season. While his current focus remains on leading the Rams to a football title, he'll next turn his eyes to the basketball court with the Rams also a leading contender for even more hardware.
"Championship - it's all about the team," Long said.
Our congratulations go out to Long and his family on his decision. He currently ranks as the #4 player in the recently updated Class of 2026 rankings.
