PHI Player of Year Finalists
The PrepHoopsIllinois Player of the Year is down to the final three! We are pleased to unveil the finalists for the PHI Player of the Year Award which will be revealed in March. It features a pair of senior rivals and a stellar junior!
Ayo Dosunmu (Morgan Park)
Dosunmu is the #1 prospect in the 2018 class. The 6’4” combo guard who is headed to Illinois next season has an unbelievable ability to attack the rim and score in the paint. He might be the best layup maker in the country being able to finish with both hands in an acrobatic way. He has had several huge scoring games this year including going for 60+ out in Las Vegas. Dosunmu is looking to lead his team to the 3A state championship where they will try to repeat again.
Talen Horton-Tucker (Simeon)
THT has been absolutely a monster this season. He has taken his game to new heights and been the best player on the floor in every big time game he has played this season against in-state competition. Horton-Tucker is a jumbo wing with athleticism and explosion scoring off the bounce and his jumper has become a more consistent threat. He is a stat sheet stuffer that does whatever it takes to win. The most versatile prospect in Illinois will head to Iowa State next season. Before that he has some unfinished business to accomplish in Peoria in March!
EJ Liddell (Belleville West)
Liddell is the only junior on this list, but he more than deserves to be here! The Belleville West 6’7” power forward is a mobile and athletic four man that has the ability to score in a variety of ways with quick post moves and his face up game has elevated to another level this season being able to knock down threes and take opponents off the bounce. High level rebounder and shot blocker. Every time we have seen him in person this season he has been phenomenal! He leads the best team in the state outside of Chicago and hopes to meet one of those powers in the state championship game.
