Senior Sunday: Recruiting Updates
Each Sunday in the winter we will be providing updates on a group of unsigned seniors from a variety of college levels and different parts of the state. Check out our latest Senior Sunday: Recruiting Updates!
PG Xavier Pinson (Simeon)
The state’s hottest recruit will announce his college choice on Monday. Simeon 2018 PG Xavier Pinson will choose between Mizzou, Wisconsin, Memphis, and Georgetown. Smart money is on Wisconsin or Mizzou as he visited both within the last week.
PG DeAndre Heckard (Romeoville)
Heckard is a prospect that is vastly under recruited. He is a broad shouldered lead guard that gets downhill and had a strong summer with Hoops4Health. His travel team coach Brendon Kolton tells us that the schools most involved right now are UC-Irvine, Sacred Heart, San Jose State, and Alcorn State. He doesn’t hold offers from any of them and has no visits planned at this time. Low-majors should jump in now and make an impression with this top 20 prospect.
PG Kaleb Thornton (Bolingbrook)
Thornton is a speedy point guard that pushes the tempo and is a pesky on ball defender. He recently broke his finger so he is sidelined right now. His high school coach Rob Brost tells us that while they haven’t offered yet the schools showing heavy interest are Montana, Jacksonville, Nebraska-Omaha, Boston, and Cornell.
PG Patrick Fisher (Bloomington)
Fisher is a combo guard that showed potential on the circuit with his play for the Illinois Wolves over the summer. He tells us right now he isn’t hearing from hardly anyone. The top 100 prospect is considering all routes including going to prep school. He would be a nice fit at a D3/NAIA program and if a program makes him a priority they will probably land his services.
PG Ben Tompson (Bartlett)
Tompson is a sharp shooter that emerged late in July with his ability to shoot from deep. He tells us that he is down to four schools at this point which are Loras, Benedictine, Knox College, and St. Ambrose. He visited Loras last weekend and was impressed with the players and coaches. He plans on making his decision after the season.
PF Joel Adese (La Salette)
Adese is a tough and rugged four man that rebounds and can score on the block. His high school coach Alex Anderson says he has an offer from D1 JUCO Eastern Wyoming along with interest from Quincy, Lindsey Wilson, and Highland CC. The only school he has visited is Quincy over the summer. He will likely play in some showcases in the spring and make a call in April.
SF Ian Burns (La Salette)
Burns is a bouncy wing that has some skill as well impressing with the KC Pacers over the summer. His high school coach reports Burns will make a call soon between University of Dallas, IIT, and Milwaukee School of Engineering. MSOE has made him a priority. Burns has visited there as well as IIT in the fall.
SG Justin Johnson (Carterville)
Johnson is a sleeper scorer from southern Illinois that would be a nice fit at the small college level. He says that he is hearing from schools for both football and basketball at this stage. MacMurray, Greenville, Missouri Baptist, and Fontbonne are the schools he has been in the most communication with. He has already visited MacMurray and is in the process of setting up a visit to Greenville.
C Mick Sullivan (Marmion)
Sullivan is a physical and tough post that rebounds in his area and can score with touch around the hoop. He reports that he will be playing the season out to see what offers he will get. Right now Ohio Dominican, Minot State, Ferris State, Elmhurst, Illinois Wesleyan, and North Central are the schools he is talking with. He is planning on visiting Ohio Dominican and Minot State at some point.
SF Calvin Fisher (Monticello)
Fisher impressed as a skilled perimeter scoring threat for the Illinois Irish over the summer. His coach with the Irish Gavin Sullivan tells us he is getting heavy interest from a lot of CCIW schools at the D3 level. Illinois Wesleyan and North Central are making the biggest push. He has visited both programs already.
SG Ben Schols (Conant)
Schols is Ryan Davis’ running mate at Conant and is a crafty scoring wing that will be an excellent piece for a college program. Just goes about his business and gets the job done. He announced his commitment on Thursday night to attend St. Ambrose.
SF Noah Blue (University)
Another commitment went down on Thursday as University wing Noah Blue announced his commitment to the Milwaukee School of Engineering. Blue made a name for himself with his play on the circuit for the Illinois Stars as a tough and gritty scorer.
