Mading is going to be immediately impactful on the defensive end for [program_tooltip program_id='2270834' first='Iowa' last='United']. He is an incredibly rangy and versatile defender. Just based on his impressive size and length alone, he will be a stifling protector of the paint. However, he offers so much more than that on the defensive end. He is a relentless and aggressive defender. Swatting away shots and cutting off driving lanes is a constant when he is on the floor. And don't get comfortable trying to shoot over him because he sends jumpers back routinely as well. He is all over the place on defense. Locking up guards and then switching onto bigs while not losing a step the entire time. He is extremely light on his feet and always engaged and communicating, not allowing any easy opportunities for opponents. On offense, he is no slouch either; actually, he is quite the opposite. The upside he offers on the offensive end is immense and very intriguing. His shot mechanics are immaculate, and his touch is pristine, making him a sniper from outside. Once his feet are set, it's game over for whoever is guarding him. Around the rim, his touch also shines. Floaters and post hooks around the rim are shots that he feasts on. And with his vertical explosiveness and length, he is liable to detonate on the rim as well. He is also often used as a screener, which is another area where he thrives, as either a pop or a roll from him is very dangerous. His ball handling is another skill of his that is starting to blossom. He has no issue bringing the ball up the court on the break and slashing through the defense for rim-shaking dunks. And in the half-court, he has shown flashes of self-creation off the bounce. Overall, Mading Kuanys' potential is pretty cut and dry. It is clear that with his length, athletic gifts, and skill, we are only scratching the surface of what kind of player he could become. And in my opinion, all of these factors point to a bright future in basketball for him. And that goes beyond college; his ceiling is really that high.
