The Battle of the Northwest League
Let’s take a look at the Northwest Division which is one of the more competitive Divisions in the city. I call it the “Battle of Nutrition.” In this division there is a lot of balance among the teams. There is no clear-cut favor, so every game that is played night in and night out is very important. We will break down the 5 team that have an opportunity to make the playoffs.
- Centennial comes in at 14-7 overall and 7-2 in league. There are no big names, are Primetime faces on this team. They play consistently hard and their guards can make outside shots when necessary. They find ways to win games in crunch time. A very competitive team that will be a tough out for anybody in the playoffs!
- Faith Lutheran come in at 17-5 overall and 6-3 in league. Had an opportunity to get out last week and look at this team compete. They have good guard play in 2018 point guard Jaylen Fox. This team also has a strong inside present with 2018 6’4″ Forward Elijah Kothe who is a relentless rebounder. If this team can find a way to be consistent down the stretch. They can make a Deep Run in the playoffs. They are senior heavy. This is the last go around, so they must make the best of it!
- Arbor View come in at 15-7 overall and 5-3 in league. This team will need leadership from there two seniors at the guard position. 2018 6’3″ G Comillion Smith he’s very athletic and can get inside the paint and make plays. 2018 6’4″ G/F Jarrod Burks can make his presence felt by being very good in transition. This is a very Scrappy group of young ball players that can make some noise.
- Cimarron-Memorial come in at 16-6 overall and 6-3 in league. 6’6″ forward Brian Washington must continue to play very good in order for this team to be a Factor in the playoffs. The key for this team is their point guard play, if they can get consistent effort at the point guard position it gives them a greater chance to make some noise.
- Legacy comes in at 11-11 overall and 4-5 in league. It’s going to take a lot for the Longhorns to make the playoffs. They’re going to need some help from other teams in their league. They are a very sneaky team that have the ability to beat any team in their league on any given night. So I do not count them out.
