Key Friday Games (1/19)
This truncated mid-January week kept a lot of Tennessee teams and players on the shelf. Countless games were postponed with some canceled outright.
With only a few weeks left of the regular season rescheduled games are being squeezed into small gaps between original dates. High school schedules will resemble NBA schedules next week.
These are some of the most important matchups as we resume action statewide tonight.
The Baylor School @ Brentwood Academy
Known to opponents as “Baylor”, the Red Raiders delivered McCallie their first loss of 2017-2018 a week ago. Can they defeat the #1 player in the state, Darius Garland? The Baylor School does have a strong roster with Boris Ristanovic (PrepHoops #28) , Patrick Urey (#49), and Nikko Simpkins (#59). Also, they boast the 35th best player in 2019 Beyuan Hendricks.
Science Hill @ Dobyns-Bennett
Jefferson County @ Morristown East
These two teams played twice already and Jefferson County won both games, the first of them in the Hardee’s Classic Championship at David Crockett.
Oak Ridge @ Karns
After a deep playoff run in 2017, Oak Ridge needs to rattle off some wins to recapture some prestige.
Oakdale @ Wartburg
After a tough December, Wartburg won their last four games. Oakdale scored 102 points against them December fifth.
Alcoa @ Austin-East
Senior Austin-East captain Christopher Hunter and sophomore Laron Dixon are bulldogs.
Monterey @ Red Boiling Springs
Riverdale @ LaVergne
Lacking size the LaVergne Wolverines do boast impressive speed at all positions.
Lebanon @ Mt. Juliet
Lebanon did lose to Mt. Juliet December 1st, but the Blue Devils have won seven of their last nine games.
Pearl Cohn @ Maplewood
Pearl Cohn and Maplewood clawed into an overtime battle earlier in the season.
Franklin @ Ravenwood
Franklin and Reese Glover continue to exceed expectations. Can Ravenwood handcuff the Rebels?
Wayne County @ Loretto
Summertown @ Collinwood
Collinwood Trojans boast a senior-laded team.
Union City @ Greenfield
Mitchell @ Raleigh-Egypt
The talent on Raleigh-Egypt belies their subpar record. No opponent is safe playing the Pharaohs.
Cane Ridge @ Antioch
Antioch has a feisty team and one player capable of causing significant problems (Lavric Mangala).
Cordova @ Bartlett
The Bartlett team could be a real thorn in the side of Cordova. Starting Panther forward Rodney Mason will be key.
Southwind @ Collierville
The Jaguars have quietly amassed a sparkling 18-1 record.
Germantown @ Ridgeway
The Roadrunners finally get to focus on Memphis opponents. They have played teams from all over the country (Kansas, Alabama, Kentucky, North Carolina, Mississippi, and Georgia). Time to zero in on the rivals.
Grace Christian- Knoxville @ Knoxville Webb
On Sunday Webb starting guard Chase Ridenour verbally committed to Tennessee Tech.
