Palmetto State : Battle at the Beach
Prep Hoops took in the action yesterday at the Battle at the Beach at Myrtle Beach HS. The event featured 2 games.
The first game of the day featured Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach vs Oak Hill Academy Red out of Mouth of Wilson, VA. The Saints jumped out to a quick 6-2 lead on the Warriors on the strong play of Samuel Woods (2018) who scored the first 6 points for the Saints.
The Warriors went on a 23-10 run to make the score 25-16 with 4:42 left when Christian McCray scored on a mid-range jumper. Saints guard Mike Green (2019) picked up his 3rd foul of the game with 3:44 left and went to the bench. The Warriors finished out the half with a 33-20 lead.
The Saints came out and hit back to back three pointers by Green and Jaylen Johnson (2018) to start the second half to make the game 35-26. The Saints were just outplayed by the bigger and longer Warriors squad on the glass all day long. The Warriors cruised in the 2nd half to a 72-52 victory.
The teams met earlier in the season back at Oak Hill Academy where the Warriors prevailed 63-53 back on December 12, 2017.
McCray a Weston, FL native finished the night with 28 points for the Warriors. Josh Hall (2018) out of Durham, NC scored 25 points for Oak Hill Academy Red. Donovan Saine (2018) a Michigan native finished the game with 10 points and Idrissa Sow (2018) scored 6 points for the Warriors.
The Saints were led by Green with 14 points, Davis Guyton (2019) provided 11 points, Woods finished with 8 points and Johnson chipped in with 7 points and 10 assists in the loss.
Freshman Lawton Fulford came off the bench to score 5 points.
