Prep Hoops is constantly keeping its nose to the ground here in the Palmetto State. Here are some news & notes from around the state this week.
Harrison Whatley has committed to New York University (NYU) according to Porter Gaud Head Coach John Pearson. Whatley 6’8 forward is a great student in the classroom and a key cog on a very talented Cyclones team. Whatley is ranked #41 in the latest 2018 Palmetto State Rankings.
Mikel Shuler scored 38 points the other night for the Woodland HS (Dorchester) in a victory over Burke HS 67-59. Shuler 5’4 guard has a 3.1 GPA in the classroom and checks in at #147 in the 2018 Palmetto State Rankings. Shuler was a All-State Selection last season.
Shaundre Miller has decided to play football in college at Newberry (SC) (NCAA D2) next season. Miller 5’10 guard from Chapman HS helped the Panthers to back to back 3-A State Championship Football Games. Miller excels on the hardwood for the Panthers. Miller checks in at #154 in the 2018 Palmetto State Rankings.
Zion Williamson finally made his return to the Spartanburg Day School lineup tonight vs Asheville Christian (NC). The Griffins won tonight in his 2018 debut 71-62.
Williamson the top player in the 2018 Palmetto State Rankings will make his college decision on January 20, 2018.
Kentucky, Clemson, Kansas, North Carolina, Duke and South Carolina are all in the mix for his services.
Williamson will head to the Hoop Hall this weekend where the Griffins will play Chino Hills (CA) on Saturday evening from Springfield, MA. Williamson has played in just 3 games this season for the Griffins and is averaging 35 ppg. Williamson currently has 2,616 career points.
CJ Plantin (2020) has left Legacy Early College and transferred back to Pendleton HS. Plantin looks to be ineligible the rest of the season. Plantin has informed Prep Hoops of his status at the current time.
Raymond Williams has returned back to Berea HS but hasn’t played yet for the Bulldogs. Williams (2018) looks like he will be ineligible the rest of the season.
Malik Wiles (2020) is still at Legacy Early College but doesn’t seem to be playing on the national team. Wiles played his freshman season at Broome HS
Naquan Addison informed Prep Hoops that will not play this season at Crestwood HS. Addison played last year at Spring Valley Hs.
