Recruiting Report: Semaj Henderson (2019)
Downers Grove North 2019 Semaj Henderson is a 6’1” point guard that has good strength. The junior is more of a scoring point guard at this stage. Henderson is at his best scoring in transition where he can get a head of steam behind him and get to the rim. Also a powerful slasher getting to the basket. At times he can be a bit wild and take some unforced shots.
Henderson spoke about his season to date.
“My year is going well right now. I am scoring the ball at a high clip. I get to the rim. I am averaging like 21 points per game.”
What does he feel his biggest assets he brings to a team are?
“My strengths are being able to pass and get to the rim when I want. Make other players around me better. I have an all-around game. Offensively I don’t see anything wrong with my game. Defensively I like to get after the best player.”
He can play both on and off the ball. Does he have a preference?
“I see myself as more of a one, but with Trey (Boston) on the team we can both play the one or the two. My coach will like me at the two sometimes because I can score the ball.”
Henderson updated us on his recruitment.
“I have two offers from NIU and Western Illinois. I have interest from Siena, Nebraska Omaha, Southern, and a couple others.”
Northern Illinois offered Henderson and was out to see him at Proviso West Tournament.
“It is like a family oriented team. They are always together. I went on a visit there. The coaching staff is real nice. They are polite and take care of their players.”
Western Illinois has also extended an early offer. How was his visit there?
“It was nice. Nothing, but love at Western Illinois. When I went on a visit there they sat me down and told me what role they think they could do. I watched their practice and all of their players introduced themselves to me. It was a real nice visit.”
