Expert Analysis
Bobby Lopez | Prep Hoops Scout
Boyd is coming off a strong summer and enters his junior year poised to be a highly effective piece for Fountain Fort Carson. He’s a capable ball handler with the vision to create for teammates, while also being aggressive getting inside and finishing through contact. On the other end, he plays in your face defense that disrupts opposing guards. That blend of toughness, playmaking and scoring gives Boyd a real opportunity to raise his stock this season

Boyd is a player who is full of potential, and now it is about putting it together. I feel that he began that push with a solid summer in which he was a force down low for Hoops Therapy, and he had some solid outings. He is a strong rebounder who runs the floor well, has a great motor, and is a paint protector. He was guarding players bigger than them, using his athleticism to go up and get boards out of his position, and is a big that you do not have to run plays for. He’s a player who I feel has a long way to go but did the right things in wanting to be better this summer by playing as much as he could and getting out to a few of our events. He makes the jump in our rankings with room to grow.

Boyd is a player with size who owns the glass. He uses his size and strength to secure rebounds and finishes through contact, and that is something you like to see in a big. In 3-on-3, he even stretched the floor with threes to showcase that he’s able to step out a bit. In 5’s is when he looked better however as he embraced his role inside. Body is best when he’s setting hard screens and rolling for the basket, boxing out and getting boards as they go up and protecting the paint. With continued improvement, his physicality and willingness to battle make him a reliable interior presence that showed flashes at the event.

Boyd has been quietly building his name this AAU season, and now it’s clear, he’s arriving in a big way. His game just keeps leveling up every time he hits the court. Offensively, he’s showing more confidence, hitting shots, creating off the dribble, and making smart plays for his teammates. It’s not just the scoring either, he’s bringing it on defense too. Whether it’s locking down on the perimeter, jumping passing lanes, or just being in the right spot, Boyd is making an impact on both ends. His all-around game is starting to pop, and people are definitely beginning to take notice

Boyd was the biggest standout of the whole weekend he just did everything right. From start to finish, he looked like the best player on the floor in my eyes. He scored from everywhere—midrange, beyond the arc and at the rim. It wasn’t just about putting up points that made him so effective. He got his teammates involved and really took on that leadership role, keeping everyone locked in and setting the tone on both ends. On defense, he was a straight up problem for opponents. He was closing out hard on shooters, staying in front of his man, and crashing the boards like a big. What really stood out was how quickly he’d turn defense into offense and snag a rebound and push the break in a flash. He was the player that brought energy, poise, and production all at once. Just super fun to watch and someone you can tell takes pride in doing all the little things right
