Palmetto State : Region 5-A Predictions
Region 5-A has just 5 schools in the region this season. This region could be a dog fight on who wants to win it. Currently nobody in the region has a winning record. Lets take a look at some players to keep a eye on during the halfway point through the season.
The Cross HS Trojans currently are 4-6 season after recently going 1-2 at the Berkeley HS Holiday Tourney. The Trojans defeated Waccamaw HS on Day 2 51-40. The Trojans have been led by BJ Fuller (2018) all season long. Fuller 6’4 is averaging 16 ppg and 11.7 rebounds.
The Bethune-Bowman Mohawks recently went 1-2 at the Orangeburg Sweet 16 Tourney. The Mohawks (4-8) on the season defeated Hanahan HS before losing to Colleton County and Fort Dorchester. All 3 of these games were played against schools twice and 3-4 times the size of Bethune-Bowman.
The Mohawks got 20 points from Roderick Pam (2018) and Braxton Wedgeworth (2019) added 17 points in the victory over Hanahan 61-51.
CE Murray War Eagles (1-8) on the season have lost twice to Kingstree, Manning and Hemingway. The War Eagles lost the services of Darius Rush before the season as he will enroll into the University of South Carolina this month for a early football signee.
Twayne Butler (2019) and two promising freshmen will look to lead the War Eagles into region play. Sheldon Bradley and Notorius Grant. Bradley 6’5 post player and Grant 5’9 plays defensive back on the football team. The future is bright for the War Eagles with this trio.
Butler 6’4 left-handed combo forward is very athletic and really fills the lane well in transition. Butler lacks perimeter skills but likes to play above the rim at times as a rim runner.
The War Eagles were Prep Hoops top team before the departure of Rush along with the Mohawks to patrol Region 5-A this season.
Branchville remains winless on the season and Scott’s Branch as a young player coming up that Prep Hoops hasn’t seen yet with our own eyes so we will keep that on the down low for the time being.
Region 5-A will come down to the wire this season and look for Bethune-Bowman Mohawks and now Cross HS to battle it out.
