Ridgewood Shootout Standouts
On Sunday we checked out the Ridgewood Shootout where we evaluated three games with prospects from a variety of classes and projected college levels. Here is our breakdown of 15 prospects from the event that stood out!
SF Jeremiah Hernandez (St. Viator – 2019)
Hernandez was the best prospect in attendance at the event. He played like it in the third quarter of their blowout win over host Ridgewood as he took over the game with his array of skills. Offensively he a versatile prospect that can score in a variety of ways. Smooth looking jump shot pulling up off the bounce. Slippery with the rock in his hand being able to get through traffic and score in the paint. Could add some more upper body strength to finish through contact better. His passing was flat out explosive! Made some incredible dishes for assists to teammates. This season we have seen growth in his passing and overall not forcing things as a scorer. Defensively he contests shots with his length and even blocks threes on occasion. Cut several passing lanes that he took the other way for transition dunks. Went for 18 points in a win. Projects as a really good mid-major prospect.
PG Treyvon Calvin (St. Viator – 2019)
Calvin started off a bit slow in this one, but eventually got it going. He is a 5’11” point guard and quality ball handler that is at his best finding creases to get to the rack. Quick twitched in transition pushing the pace. Most of his scores came in the paint. Rebounds well for a point guard as he got a lot of rebounds and started the break the other way. Pesky on ball defender. Calvin had 13 points. Should be looked at by low-major D1 programs.
SG Peter Lambesis (St. Viator – 2018)
Lambesis is a 6’2” shooting guard that might be one of the most versatile players in his class. Big fan of how he does a little bit of everything and makes a huge impact on the game. Offensively as a scorer he shoots it well pulling up off the bounce with a sweet lefty shot. Can take it to the cup on occasion with a slash, but finishes best at the rim in transition. Sneaky strength allows him to finish through bodies at the rim. Excellent passer for a wing! High basketball IQ and feel for the game putting teammates in the perfect spot to score. Plus defender that gets after it on that end with his toughness and athleticism. Lambesis is a priority D3/NAIA prospect and might be even worth a look by D2 schools. He had 21 points.
C Michael Huene (St. Viator – 2020)
Huene is an intriguing 6’8” post. The skilled big man has nice footwork in the post and an array of skilled post moves. At times he can over think it and do too many moves. Can score with a hook shot over both his right and left shoulders. Gives his guard a big target to throw the ball into. Willing passer out of the post. Could add some strength which will help him finish more consistently. Funky release on free throw. Potential to be a good rebounder high pointing them in traffic. Went for 11 points. Huene is a player that we are looking forward to seeing how he develops.
SG Enes Prijic (Ridgewood – 2019)
This 6’3” junior shooting guard has a pure shooting stroke and let it fly from three at a solid clip. Deep range on his shot out to beyond the arc. Hit them both pulling up and off the catch. Scored on a runner as well, but mostly a shooting specialist. He went for 15 points. Small college player.
F Kevin Czyzewski (Ridgewood – 2020)
This 6’5” combo forward was in foul trouble throughout the game, but showed us some potential. Good size and strength. Not sure if he is going to grow much more so probably will project as a rugged three man at the next level. The sophomore got to the rim on a few slashes with his strength attacking his man. Toughness on the defensive end and can block an occasional shot. He had 7 points.
PG Jake Santi (Nazareth – 2018)
Santi is a 6’1” point guard that is a really scrappy player. Had a nose for the basketball and got on the offensive glass well for a lead guard. Hit a corner three. Tough small college prospect. He had 10 points.
PF Michael Adams (Nazareth – 2018)
Adams is a jumbo 6’4” power forward that can play facing up and with his back to the hoop. He likes to open from the mid-post where he can hit a jumper or attack off the dribble. Not the best athlete so he usually powers his way through his man to score at the rim. Makes quick and assertive moves with the basketball. He had 15 points. Adams would be a nice D3/NAIA/JUCO player.
SG Tagen Pearson (Nazareth – 2020)
Pearson was the top prospect on Nazareth. The 6’1” shooting guard is a little undersized, but has projectability to grow a couple more inches in his final three years of high school. Pure shooting stroke from three. Gets elevation off the floor and has good rotation on his shot. Made a couple nice passes, but also turns it over at times when playing on the ball. Definitely more comfortable playing off the ball moving to get open and setting up his shot. Pearson had 14 points.
PF Patrick Siepman (Nazareth – 2018)
Siepman is a tough and gritty 6’3” forward that didn’t score, but he made an impact on the game with his rebounding and tenacity. The senior is a thick bodied forward that is a very good area rebounder. Plays like a whirling dervish with his all-out motor. Not a good free throw shooter. Good high school role player.
PG Dejsani Beamon (Burlington Central – 2018)
The 5’10” point guard got in the lane throughout their contest. Really likes to finish with runners and floaters over traffic inside. Crisp ball handler that can cross his man and find the crease. Beamon had 10 points. Small college player.
SG Patrick Mayfield (Burlington Central – 2019)
Mayfield is a 6’4” shooting guard with a smooth looking jump shot. Drilled multiple triples off the catch. Solid athlete that can do more than just shoot it. Had an acrobatic finish at the rim and handled it well. Mayfield went for 11 points. Projects as a D3/NAIA player.
SG Michael Kalusa (Burlington Central – 2018)
Kalusa is the vocal leader for Burlington Central. The 2018 6’1” senior plays with a chip on his shoulder. The wing is active and has a nose for the basketball. Couple quick finishes inside and mixed in a wing three. Kalusa had 13 points. Small college role player.
C Ethan Petric (Providence Catholic – 2018)
Petric is a 6’8” center that was efficient scoring with his back to the basket. He did a very nice job of using skilled moves and hook shots to score. Also plays well in the high/low game both as a passer and receiver. Drilled a 12 foot jumper. Good area rebounder. Would be worth a look at the small college level for sure, but we were told he will probably play baseball in college. Finished with 11 points.
SG Adam Taylor (Providence Catholic – 2019)
Taylor is a good sized 6’4” two guard that plays well in transition. Got several scores in transition with his ability to finish filling the lane. Also had a nice baseline take. Overall just a crafty scorer with some toughness. Finished with 10 points.
