Prep Hoops took in the tourney actions at the Titans Classic.
Trinity-Byrnes 70, Oakbrook Prep 26
The Knights started the game off fast and took an early 6-2 lead in the first quarter. Jakorian Martin hit two three for Oakbrook Prep. Then the Titans took control of the game and went in a 19-3 run to end the first quarter. LaSauhn McFadden (2018) scored 10 points for the Titans. Martin scored only six points for the Knights.
In the second quarter, the Titans continue to put the hammer to the Knights. Chainz Gilliard of Oakbrook Prep was called for a technical foul in the second quarter. Terance Mack (2018) and Ryan Frierson (2018) had five points to lead the Titans in the second quarter. The Titans led 41-9 heading into the half.
Second half Oakbrook Prep coach Stephen Keim was hit with a technical foul. Cal Wooten (2018) scored his only four points in the second half for the Knights.The Titans would finish the classic and remain perfect at 6-0 on the season.
Laurence Manning 66, The King’s Academy 59 (OT)
Jerrel Kelly (2018) scored a team-high 28 points in the win. Tyrek Epps (2018) scored a game-high 33 points for The King’s Academy. The Lions open the first quarter to a 14-11 lead over Laurence Manning.
Kelly came out and scored 11 points in second points to give the Swampcats a 30-24 lead at the half.
In the second half Epps took control and scored 20 of his 33 points in the half. Epps scored the final seven points for the Lions to send the game into overtime. Epps had a chance to win the game with to free-throws with 0.2 left in the game. Epps made only one of two free-throws to tie at 51-51.
In the overtime Kelly 6’9 scored the nine of the 15 points for Laurence Manning. Laurence Manning went 2-0 in the Titans Classic and The King’s Academy spilt the two games at the Classic.
Epps finished with 72 points in the two games in the Classic. Eps played last season at nearby Lake City HS.
