5 Best: Oak Park-River Forest vs Fenwick
5 Best: Oak Park-River Forest 64 – Fenwick 59
Chicago, Il. – In the final game on Friday at the Chicago Elite Classic OPRF faced off against Fenwick in a classic rivalry game. In would be the best game of the night as the atmosphere of both team’s student sections really gave both teams a boost on the court as emotions were high from the opening tip. OPRF came into the game 4-0 and were able to hold off Fenwick with tough on ball defense and stellar play from Senior guard Isaiah Fuller. Here we scout the 5 bests of the game:
Game MVP: PG Isaiah Fuller 6’2’’ (2018) OPRF
The game MVP goes to uncommitted senior guard Isaiah Fuller from the jump Fuller played a great game on both ends of the court and I was most impressed with his on-ball defense on Sophomore PG DJ Steward he kept putting intense pressure on Stewart. Fuller was best attacking the lane on offense and finishing at the rim, but also hit two big three pointers in the first quarter to help OPRF get out to a lead and never look back. Fuller finished the game with 19 points 6 assists and three rebounds. Fuller also was valuable at the line going 9-10 on free throws which is what you look for in a point guard when closing out games. If Fuller continues his hot start to his senior year look for one of the top uncommitted guard in Illinois to start picking up some more College offers.
Defense: PG Isaiah Fuller 6’2’’ (2018) OPRF
Fundamentally Fuller played great defense on and off the ball. Was in the right spots on help side, and also moved his feet really well on the ball limiting Fenwick star DJ Steward to just 5-16 shooting and 13 points. At the next level the easiest way to see the court in by knowing how to defend and Fuller has the tools.
6th Man: C – Phil Staleh 6’4’’ (2018) & PG Sidney Allgood 5’7’’ (2019) OPRF
Senior Phil Staleh and Junior PG Sidney Allgood both provide major spark for OPRF off the bench. Staleh was efficient around the basket going 4-5 for 8 points in just 13 minutes. While Allgood was 3-4 from the field including 2-2 from deep to total 8 points.
Best Passer: PG Isaiah Fuller 6’2’’ (2018) OPRF
Mentioned early that Fuller had a great all-around game well he also totaled a game high 6 assists for OPRF. He set up his teammates well in both half court and out in the break. Another impressive stat is Fuller has zero turnovers for OPRF, that is a pretty good ratio.
Best Underclassmen: PG DJ Steward 6’1’’ (2020) Fenwick
The Fenwick star didn’t have his best shooting performance going 5-16 for 13 points but he did lead Fenwick in points 13 and rebounds 8. He really does an excellent job attacking rebounds and is an athletic jumper with a good second jump. Faced a tough OPRF defense but Steward has all the tools to be a high major player down the line.
