Championship Friday Night (Dec. 1)
The first night of December will feature many championship games from tournaments around the state. Here is a look at some of those championship games:
Pattonville: Whitfield vs. Jennings, 8:15 p.m. – A rematch of last year’s championship game, which was won by Jennings. Both teams have 2018 guards who can take over games with Whitfield being led by Mizzou signee Torrence Watson and Jennings paced by Kyle Younge, Jr. (Prediction: Jennings).
Vianney: Hazelwood Central vs. Ladue, 7 p.m. – Both teams have been impressive in winning their first two games. The deep and athletic Hawks play at a fast pace while the younger Rams have been able to control the tempo. (Prediction: Hazlewood Central).
Oran: Oran vs. Advance, Friday, 8 p.m. – Two teams that played for state championships last year will hook up in the finals. Oran won the Class 2 title while Advance finished second in Class 1. It should be a good one in Southeast Missouri. (Prediction: Oran).
Troy: Cardinal Ritter vs. Troy, Friday, 8:30 p.m. – Cardinal Ritter is quick and talented and a Class 3 contender while Troy advanced to the finals with a last-second victory over Francis Howell. (Prediction: Cardinal Ritter).
Montgomery County: Fulton vs. Montgomery County, Friday, 7:30 p.m. – Host Montgomery County likes to run and score points while Fulton is an athletic team with good experience. Should be an entertaining affair. (Prediction: Fulton).
Southside Classic (at DuBourg): John Burroughs vs. Mehlville, Friday, 8 p.m. – These are two teams looking to build some confidence with an early-season championship. John Burroughs is led by guard Jake Goldfarb and 6’5″ Michael Nicholas while Mehlville is led by 6’2″ 2020 King Waller. (Prediction: John Burroughs).
Tipton: Jamestown vs. New Bloomfield, Saturday, 7 p.m. – A battle between a pair of excellent small-school bigs as 6’6″ Jak Kitchens of New Bloomfield squares off against 6’5″ Trenton Barbour of Jamestown. (Prediction: New Bloomfield).
Eugene: Eugene vs. Blair Oaks, Friday, 8 p.m. – Host Eugene has a well-balanced team with good size and shooting ability. Blair Oaks enjoyed two solid wins to get to tonight’s finals. (Prediction: Eugene).
Winfield: Christian-O’Fallon vs. Fort Zumwalt East, Saturday, 2:30 p.m. – Christian-O’Fallon has a good blend of senior experience and young freshman talent while Fort Zumwalt East advanced with a victory over Timberland in a mild surprise. (Prediction: Christian-O’Fallon).
