Class 5 Teams to Watch
Here are some of the Top Class 5 teams to watch this season:
Webster Groves: The defending state champions with be without top guard Courtney Ramey until January with a wrist injury. Until then, the Statesmen will build around 6’8″ SLU recruit Carte’are Gordon, along with perimeter threats in 6’2″ 2018 R.J. Wright, 6’3″ 2019 Ray Adams and 6’0″ 2019 Amorey Womack.
Lee’s Summit West: The state runners-up from 2017 return excellent 6’7″ Creighton signee Christian Bishop, plus pick up 6’10” transfer Yor Anei, who signed with Oklahoma State. Mario Goodrich, a Nebraska football recruit returns to the backcourt.
Chaminade: The Red Devils are looking for their third consecutive Final Four appearance behind the play of 6’7″ North Carolina State recruit Jericole Hellems. The supporting cast is led by 2018 guard Jadis White, 2019 guards Keyyan Batchman, Amari Pesek-Hickson and 2020 wing Luke Kasubke.
Rock Bridge: The Bruins were state quarterfinalist a year ago and they return a talented group of 2019s in 6’6″ Isiaih Mosley, 6’3″ Dejuan Harris, 6’4″ Jamonta Black and improving 6’6″ forward Quenton Brown.
Hazelwood Central: The senior dominated Hawks return 6’3″ Kansas State signee Shaun Williams, 6’4″ athlete Cameron Williams, 5’9″ shooter Telly Wright and 6’2″ guard Jalen Covington-Berry.
Jackson: The Indians have advanced to the state quarterfinals the past four years. They are big and experienced with the return of 6’7″ 2018s Cameron Hester and Pete Lake up front and 2018 guards Gavin Harris and Desmond Morris out front.
CBC: The Cadets have one of the top 2020s in 6’3″ guard Caleb Love along with improved 6’6″ 2019 forward Josh Wallace to lead the way. Guards Davis Aufdembrink and Jai Love provide veteran leadership and shooting.
Park Hill: Missouri State signee Ronnie Bell returns to lead the way along with 6’10” 2019 rim protector Roman Wilson and 6’6″ 2018 forward Cecil Lee. A big and experienced team.
Oak Park: The Northmen return one of the state’s top wings in 6’4″ 2018 Ochai Agbaji, along with fellow 2018 wings Jhaidyn Richards and Kaden Evans.
Glendale: The Falcons return one of state’s top duos in 6’4″ Monty Johal and 6’0″ Jordan Walton, who have been starting together at Glendale since their freshmen seasons.
Park Hill South: The Panthers have one of the state’s top perimeter trios in 2019 guard Lamel Robinson, 5’10” 2019 Desi Williams and 6’3″ 2018 Saadique Perkins.
Rockhurst: The Hawklets are led by smooth 6’1″ 2018 guard Xavier Rhodes. A group of talented 2019s are also back in 6’6″ Darrius Hughes, 6’5″ Dalen Rigdnal and point guard Glenn McClintock.
Battle: Talented 6’5″ 2018 wing Trae Meny returns from a district championship team from 2017. Guard Marcus Grant is a talented 2020 athlete with good size.
Fort Zumwalt South: The Bulldogs are young and talented with 6’0″ 2018 guard Darious Thomas, 6’4″ 2019 E.J. Bellinger and 6’4″ 2020 forward J.J. Schwepker back to lead the way.
Liberty North: The Eagles return a nice backcourt in 2019 Javaunte Hawkins and 2018 Logan Jenkins along with 6’5″ 2018 post Tyson Cathy.
Ozark: The Tigers return a dynamic backcourt in 2018s Quinn Nelson and Parker Hanks from a 19-9 season a year ago.
Parkview: The Vikings picked up a top transfer in 6’5″2019 forward Tyem Freeman, who will team up with standout 2020 guard Dontae Taylor.
