Proving to be a solid connective piece for this 17U Wiz Kids group, Jalen Mehu continued to prove to be at his best when he’s finishing in different ways around the rim, with nice touch too— efficient at the basket out of the dunker spot, attacking open driving lanes off the bounce, and running the floor in transition and finishing athletically above the rim. Mehu was also extremely active on the boards, crashing with effort and energy, creating second chance opportunities on the offensive glass and winning box outs on the defensive glass to secure rebounds.

Finishing out a breakout year as a repeat junior, Mehu wasn’t too prolific in the scoring column but was nonetheless consistent in his two-way impact. He was at his best getting out in transition but also looked like the game was starting to slow down for him as a ballhandler and passer in the halfcourt, and he also showed nice touch as a finisher around the rim with either hand. Defensively, he was an effective secondary rim protector in smaller lineups and slid his feet impressively on the perimeter with Blair’s dynamic guards. Mehu’s ability to impact games on the margins without needing his number called should give him a chance to generate traction among D1 programs this spring and summer.

shined not only in the ways he was able to finish around the basket but also be disruptive on the defensive end of the floor. Mehu seemed to pretty much live at the rim being extremely active on the offensive glass and generating second chance opportunities, getting to the basket on dribble drives and finishing strong, and even showing flashes of being an effective cutter off the ball. An engaged defender, Mehu also impressed on the defensive end, defending with effort and energy.

Mehu has impressed in spurts throughout AAU play over the years but has struggled to crack the rotation amid a loaded 2026 class at Archbishop Stepinac (NY). Now at TPS as a repeat junior, Mehu looks to be flourishing in his new locale after a breakout performance in Saturday’s win over St. Peter’s Prep. The explosive wing had his way around the basket, finishing efficiently and explosively whether in transition, as a cutter, off offensive rebounds, or with flashes of ability as a straight-line driver. His activity extended to the defensive end, where he’s extremely quick to the ball with a nose for clogging things up for the opposing offense. Look for Mehu to continue to emerge among the 2027 class with scholarship-level recruitment likely on the horizon.

This past weekend at New Jersey Legacy’s Get In Get Out Showcase was my first chance getting to watch Jalen Mehu and came away impressed with his ability to be a nice connective piece as a solid do it all guard. Doing whatever is required of to impact winning, Mehu has proven to be capable of being a strong finisher around the basket, a willing passer that doesn’t mind keeping the ball moving, a ferocious rebounder, and even showing flashes as a perimeter shot maker.

A pg with good size. Showed the awareness to change direction or speed on the open floor. Really fast with the ball in his hands. Excellent court vision. Really good passer, can get into the lane with his size and speed and create scoring chances.
