, it came down to this. More interest would have certainly come for the former Mountainside star this upcoming season at Dream City Christian in Arizona, but the versatile 6-foot-5 guard decided to focus his college recruitment on the schools that had been on him through the summer. After sorting things out, he decided to commit to Utah State and sign with the Aggies during the upcoming early signing period.
“I felt a good connection with coach Calhoun and the entire staff as well as the players,” Boe said. “Coach Calhoun’s actions in my recruitment really showed me how much they wanted me. I think Utah State has a very special basketball culture and one of the best environments to play in.”
Boe made his decision not long after making an official visit to Utah State. There were plans to also visit UC Santa Barbara and possibly Boise State (where he had previously made unofficial visits) but there was no need as Boe felt he had found the right fit both on the off the court.
“Utah state came in towards the end of my recruitment process but after I took a visit there I felt an instant connection,” Boe said. “They are planning to use me on and off the ball which I think will showcase my whole game. They currently have 4 guards that will be graduating so I think there will be a good opportunity for me to play as a freshman.”
A two-time Metro League Player of the Year and First Team 6A All-State honoree at Mountainside – where he leaves the school as the all-time leading scorer – Boe is now focused on the year ahead at Dream City Christian now that his college recruitment is complete. Now it’s about getting better playing with and against big time players and he’s excited about what’s ahead.
“Leaving Mountainside was a very difficult decision for me to make but Dream City has been great so far,” Boe said. “I expect to continue to improve my game and playing against high level competition everyday in practice as well as during the season will be big in my improvement. I’ve been working hard on becoming an even better shooter and being able to really guard on the defense side of the ball.”
Our congratuations go out to Boe and his family on his college decision. As always, stay tuned to PrepHoops Oregon for the latest recruiting and high school information on in-state and former in-state standouts.
