The Basketball Interview: Jalen Jordan
Jalen Jordan, a 6’3 small forward from Lake Taylor High School is one third of maybe the best trio the 757 has to offer. Here we get to know Jalen a little better with a variety of topics, both on and off the court.
What are some strengths in your game that make you the player you are?
“One strength I have compared to most players in the 757 area is my ability to play as a taller guard. It’s hard for smaller guards to contest my shots, and with my added 6’8 wingspan, my arms are so long it’s also hard for players to score against me offensively with my blocking abilities.”
What are some weaknesses you need to improve on as the season gets going?
“One weakness is my dribbling, it could be better. And having quicker feet on defense.”
High school or AAU?
“AAU, because I get to play against different talent levels from all over the country.”
What has changed in your Lake Taylor squad from last season to this one?
“We are still in a maturity stage. But not quite. We are much deeper off the bench, which gives any of us time to get a break if needed and not have to worry about the offense falling off.”
What team isn’t on your schedule in Virginia that you would want to play the most and why?
“I would like to play Oak Hill again. Last year they were significantly bigger than us, but this year they aren’t as big, and I think we could play with them better.”
Who’s your favorite NBA Player and why?
“My favorite NBA player would be either Kevin Durant or Steph Curry. KD because he can play and check on positions, and he’s a scoring machine. Steph because his shot is cash from almost anywhere, and I like to shoot the ball as well.”
Finally, what is one thing you want college coaches to know about you?
“I’m a team player. I’m not selfish at all. I think I can get the job done whenever I’m needed. I’m a shooter. And ultimately, I take pride in this game that I love.”
Prephoops Evaluation:
Jalen Jordan is the type of player every coach should be looking at as a late steal. In the 757, Jordan maybe the most underrated senior the area has to offer. With 13 points and a huge dunk in a win over rival Green Run, Jordan has started the season on a high note, and could fit any mid-major Division I squad.
