Prospect Spotlight: Jack Kouba (2019)
Jack Kouba, a class of 2019 guard for Bishop Ireton, will be expected to step up and produce on both ends of the court this season. After a standout grassroots campaign with the Arlington Rockets, the junior combo guard appears set to embrace his new role.
“I’m a pass first combo guard. I love defense,” Kouba said of his overall game. “I don’t like to let people get past me. I play for my teammates.”
Kouba mentioned that the aspect of his game he’s currently focused on improving is his shooting. He is working on expanding his three point game, and his mid range pull up jumper.
“I think I need to get stronger in the weight room,” Kouba stated. “I got great coaches here who help me out.”
Off the court, Kouba is a straight A student with a 3.9 GPA. He attended respective elite camps at Holy Cross and Cornell. What was the biggest thing Kouba learned during the summer with his AAU team?
“Definitely was a jump with the competition wise. Everyone grew a little taller. Everyone jumps a little higher. It was more competitive,” Kouba explained. “I just had a blast going against some of the ranked guys and proving myself to some of the people who didn’t really know me.”
Kouba understands that the dynamic of his team at Ireton is different this season, and he’s prepared to make an impact.
“We have a bunch of new guys. The team is completely different, and I wanna be a big part,” he began. “I just wanna contribute as much as I can to the team. If that means scoring, if that means defense. Anything I gotta do to help the team win.”
What can Kouba bring to a college program?
“Consistency to both ends of the court. With offense, defense, shooting. My hustle. I just want opportunities.”
