This 6’5″ guard quickly turned some heads on Thursday morning at Purdue. The first pay that really caught everyone’s attention was a quick right-to-left crossover that he used to get downhill and then he elevated for a big one-handed slam down the middle of the lane. Smith continued to make tough plays off of the dribble and facilitate to his teammates. He is definitely a prospect to watch in Indiana’s Class of 2028 this summer.

One of our personal favorite prospects in the Class of 2028, we’ve been stock buyers of Smith’s for a while now. He has cashed some of that in over the course of the spring while playing with Progeny 16u on the UAA Circuit. His size and length in the backcourt is what is very projectable. Smith has legitimate point guard skills as a ball handler and passer, but does so with a 6’5″ frame and long arms. The playmaking ability at his size helped lift his ranking to #26 overall in the Class of 2028.

We’ve high on this North Central High School prospect for a while now, but we are buying more stock following the Havoc in the Heartland. Smith is a legitimate 6’4″-6’5″ guard that can handle it, pass it, and defend multiple positions. His length and athleticism off of the dribble makes him very tough to handle at the end of his drives. Smith was a star for Progeny UAA 16u who was one of the most dominant teams in attendance this weekend.

We have been high on this North Central High School prospect for a while now. Smith has excellent size and length on the perimeter. Those athletic and physical tools make him a highly projectable two-way threat. He handles and passes the ball like a guard, can defend multiple positions, and creates a lot of matchup issues offensively. We look forward to seeing him more this weekend with Progeny UAA 16u.

When it comes to long-term potential, I felt like 2028 wing David Smith David Smith David Smith 6'5" | PG North Central (Indianapolis) | 2028 State IN of North Central had the best odd out of the players on the floor. A long, lanky 6’5 prospect that can be versatile with his ability to play inside-and-out. He is not going to wow you with physical tools other than his length yet, but he has a smooth game with long strides to the basket and consistent from behind the arc. He is one to keep an eye on for the Panthers. He finished with 12 points.

We first started to get our eyes on Smith during June while North Central High School was playing at the Tuesday night PAC League. Then, he came and earned top performer status at our Prep Hoops Indiana Sophomore ID Camp. The 6’4″-6’5″ guard has impressive positional size and length. He handles the ball like a point guard and definitely processes the game like one. His passing ability might be his most impressive trait right now. Smith is now ranked #42 in the Prep Hoops Indiana Class of 2028.

There are a lot of minutes up for grabs at North Central High School this season. We started to see Smith gobble them up over the course of the summer and based on what we saw on Sunday at the Prep Hoops Indiana Sophomore ID Camp he could end up being one of the best players for the Panthers this season. The 6’4″ guard obviously has great positional size, but also is a talented passer and can run the offense as a playmaker. He was very impressive while playing against a high level of competition.

The first thing that stands out when watching Smith is his size as a true combo guard. At 6’5″, Smith’s best attribute is likely his passing ability. He was whipping passes around the floor with accuracy using both hands. Similarly, the North Central High School product is able to finish with both hands at the end of his drives. He is very hard for other guards to handle due to his size, but larger defenders have a tough time staying in front of him as well. Look for him to have a breakout sophomore season at North Central High School.

There has certainly been some attrition of talent due to outgoing transfers this summer from North Central High School. However, this playmaking combo guard is one that the Panthers should be excited about going forward. Smith, who is now 6’2″-6’3″, had a strong summer at the varsity level and should be a key contributor this coming season as a sophomore.
