Recruiting Report: Jared Hofer (2018)
Jared Hofer – 6’9” | F | Indiana PROS 2018 | Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian
Jared Hofer is looking to flip the script on his high school career with his senior season at Blackhawk Christian. Hofer was attending Fort Wayne Carroll prior to this season but made an inner-city move to play for the Braves. Jared will be sidelined until January, but will anxiously be awaiting his opportunity to help lead this team to a State Title. He played his final AAU season with the Indiana PROS where he played alongside Michigan State University commit Aaron Henry and Purdue University commit Eric Hunter Jr. Jared is one of the top remaining players in the Class of 2018.
“I’m super excited for this season, even though I can’t play till January.” Although Hofer will miss out on the beginning half of his senior year, he has high hopes for what is shaping up to be a deep postseason run for the Braves. Blackhawk will be touting three players that are 6’9” this season: Jared Hofer (Senior), Drake Thompson (Senior), and Caleb Furst (Freshman). “I can’t wait to cheer my teammates on from the bench.”
Blackhawk Christian is coming off a solid 17-10 season where they ended up losing by two in the Sectional Championship game. Hofer will bring the added size that they were missing in the postseason last year and a high basketball IQ.
Jared creates space well down low with his big frame. His footwork has been improving and he’s getting down the floor better. He is one of the few big men that truly rim run in transition and carve out space early. Hofer is also great at following with the ball screen and reading the defense.
He can step away from the basket and knock down the mid-range jumper at a high rate but also rolls to the basket and finishes well with both hands. With Jalan Mull at the point, Jared will get some easy baskets down low when he returns to game action.
“I’ve taken three visits to Hillsdale (College) and I love everything about their school. Hillsdale (College) and Bethel (College) have shown the most interest.” Ball State University has also gotten in the mix and offered Jared a walk on position with their program.
Jared Hofer has some true size at the forward position and is looking to use his senior season to solidify himself as one of the best big men in the state. Keep an eye on the Fort Wayne prospect during the 2017-2018 season.
