After end-to-end coverage of high school basketball in the Borderland this past year, I can definitively say that the class of 2025 is deeper than the class of 2024. This list includes Borderland players from the class of 2025, from El Paso, TX, to Las Cruces, NM, who should be on every college recruiter’s radar if they’re not already for their senior year.
Well, the secret is out on Chapin’s Jayden Leverett Jayden Leverett 6'10" | C El Paso Chapin | 2025 State TX now. He’s been offered by just about every major DI program in Texas and has collected his fair share of offers out of state as well. That said, there are still plenty more schools that still have time to get familiar with his game before it’s too late. Leverett is a lengthy 6-10 Big who can run the floor and guard in space while getting stronger in the post with each passing day. He’s the most coveted player in the Borderland and should have a stellar season as Chapin chases that elusive state playoff appearance.

, but he is still being slept on at the regional and state levels. The Eastwood point guard is the best floor general in the Borderland who plays methodically and efficiently. He might not play above the rim or produce flashy plays, but he does everything right. Recruiters should get in on him now because he will have a stellar senior season, just like he did as a junior and sophomore.

Talking about being slept up while having a major upside, look no further than Ysleta’s Azaiah Thompson. The kid is a walking bucket who can get to the rim at will while providing standout plays on the defensive end. He’s one of the few Borderland prospects who sees double teams and, with that, has opportunities to create as a playmaker. His shooting touch from range and passing are still developing, but those skills are very much on the way, as college recruiters should be this upcoming season.

A 6-4 point guard with elite vision and endless defensive energy, what more could a college recruiter want? Washington is arguably the most dynamic athlete the Borderland has to offer with his length, speed, and verticality. Organ Mountain graduated its star seniors from last season, which makes Washington its top playmaker and scoring option going forward. With that, it should put him at the top of every recruiter’s list for players out of Las Cruces, NM.

Brody John is another 2025 Borderland prospect with a knack for putting the ball in the basket. Standing at 6-4, the El Paso High wing can score at all three levels but is also a fluid off-ball mover. He’ll return for his senior year as the primary scoring threat, but it will be his progression as a playmaker and defender that gets recruiters in the gym.

The guard depth at Chapin High School is astounding, starting with Savion Jordan. He’s a phenomenal dual sport athlete who garners a lot of attention on the football field, but his biggest success might come on the basketball court this upcoming season. Chapin graduated some major prospects in 2024, which opens up more room for Jordan to grow, score, and lead.

Derek Mendez
Derek Mendez
Eastlake High School produced some of the best prospects from the class of 2024. With that, Derek Mendez was still one of the team’s most impactful players as a junior. His end-to-end defense and three-point shooting are aspects of his game that never leave him, but he will have the opportunity to round out the rest of his game next season. Every team at the next level can use great on-ball defense and outside shooting; Mendez provides just that.
